You don't need a passport to travel to the Isle of Man or Ireland, but you'll need photo ID of an approved type. I just take my passport, it's the easiest form of ID. I'm off to IOM in June :tup

Always check with the airline you are travelling with, but Ryanair's website details pretty much everything.
