Hi juby

No the shops will be open all day :tup

Lunch, oh dear where do I start, you have a large choice of really excellent Italian restaurants available that are very handy for you considering the realistic area you will be in.

My suggestions (no doubt others will add to this)

Close to the area of Buchanan St & Argyle St are the following that I like

Amarone http://www.amaronerestaurant.co.uk
Sarti http://www.sarti.co.uk
Dimagios http://www.dimaggios.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34&Itemid=62
La Vita ( George Sq) http://www.lavitapizzeria.co.uk/

Close to Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery / Kelvinhall Transport Museum you have

Lamora http://www.lamorakitchen.co.uk/index.htm

My personal choice from above would be either, Amarone, La Vita or Lamora.

Hearty Pub Grub how do I narrow this one down :think

Ok, the places I would go in the Buchanan St, Argyle St and George Sq area.
An easy well know pub chain to start, The Counting House (http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/pub-details.php?PubNumber=282)
Auctioneers North Court, over the road and up slightly from The Counting House just behind Cafe Andaluz
All Bar One http://www.allbarone.co.uk/allbaroneglasgow/
O'Neills Queen Street Off Argyle St leading to George Sq http://www.oneills.co.uk/oneillsqueenstreetglasgow/

Something a bit different Frankenstiens West Gerorge St http://www.frankenstein-pub.co.uk/
TGI Fridays Buchanan St http://www.tgifridays.co.uk/Display-Nearest-TGIs/Glasgow

All these (and many, many more) are located around the city centre area of Buchanan St and Argyle St that you are visiting so are good options for you.

If you want more ideas for food http://www.list.co.uk/places/bar-pub-food/where:Glasgow

Anything else just ask :cheers

Handy for me as I plan to go next week during half term.

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to get from Glasgow Queen Street station to the transport museum on the underground and how much it may cost?
Reply
There is an underground station at queen street, get off at the kelvin hall stop and it is a 10-15 minute walk from there to the museum. Kelvingrove art gallery is next to the transport museum and is well worth nost at too.

Just in case of any confusion, the Subway station needed is actually Buchanan Street rather than Queen Street. The Queen Street low level station provides completely different routes and rail services, not part of the Subway network.

There is an internal/part external walkway and travelator from Queen Street mainline station to the concourse at Buchanan Street Subway. Subway fares are £1.20 single, or £3.50 for a Discovery Ticket which provides unlimited one day travel:

Admission to the Museum of Transport and Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is free:

Sorry I should have made that clear that the underground station is not called queen street rather it is called buchanan street and there is an entrance to the subway next to the side entance of queen street.

Botanic Gardens for a wander, Ashton Lane for a drink or 6 and then a curry in the Dhabba on Albion St.
