Due to the recent period of civil unrest, the Government has extended the emergency provisions as regards law and order for a further 3 months. This means that large gatherings may not be tolerated - and may be applied to the traditional parties on the Champs-Elysees on New Year's Eve. This may also be the case in other parts of France - especially in my area where New Year's Eve Car Burning is the highlight of the year for many youngsters!!!

Perhaps the French Embassy in London can advise you further.
