TC,

It seems some reservation staff were using the story that someone had created an MGM page and had taken bookings. This obviously caused a lot of concern for you (and plenty of others on TA) and MGM soon backtracked that particular excuse because of the obvious consequences if that had happened.

Let's face it, it was an error. Human probably and the rate should never have been released to the public. It really was good to be true. MGM could have honoured all those bookings but aside from some good PR they were not obliged to and they opted not to. If it was my business I would probably have done the same.

Good luck with finding that "great" rate. The deal offered by MGM sucks, $140 a night for the whole 14 nights. Nobody is going to take up that offer even though it might be considered a reasonable average rate having taken weekends into the equation. I'm sure you will find better than that, when you do, let us know......

Cheers

Drat. Be slow, miss out on good Vegas deal. :cry

I finally saw the Visa Offer Celebrity Spa Suite @ $89 for all 5 nights of our stay a few days back. I went to have another look today and guess what, that deal has sold out. :really

Moral of this story. See it, book it, worry about the consequences later.

Ah well, the Grand Tower rooms are lovely anyway. :tup

well, I've well and truly taken the plunge! :rofl

I've booked the Signature for the whole two weeks and cancelled my first 4 nights in a Spa suite. :really

After a bit of digging I found out that suites at the Signature are privately owned (a lot of them anyway) and these are available for rental. Basically you can book direct through the owner, or through a management company. I booked through a management company and have saved $800 or so on the price being asked on the Signatures own website. All taxes, fees and cleaning costs are included. It works out at £88 a night over the two weeks which is not much more expensive than MGM Grand is charging at the moment for a Tower room. You can still cancel without any charge up to 48 hours before you arrive.
I'm delighted to be staying there as not only are the suites top class, the pool areas are so comfortable and quiet, it's a real pleasure to be there - last year there was a total of 6 people around the pool! :sun2

Roll on September!! :D

Cheers,

Nice one TC! You may well be the first person to review the Signature on here.

TC,

Good effort. We very nearly stayed at the Signature last year but opted for the Celebrity Spa Suite instead.

I read a thread on TA about the Suites being privately owned. Seems a good deal, 20-40% off the offical Signature rates. I just looked for my dates, $149 on the offical Signature website (plus $15 per day resort fee), so a chance they could be anywhere between $119 or $89 per night which is definitely tempting.

Did you stay in a Junior Suite?

Ju

p.s. Just noticed the rates start from $110 through a private owner on VRBO. This particularly owner states non refunable though.

Hi Ju,

Yes, stayed in a junior suite last year and have another one booked for this year.

I looked on VRBO and Jetliving - both rental sites. But I finally booked through Luxury Suites International who are a management company, I feel a little 'safer' booking through a company rather than an individual - they only came out at $30 more than the cheapest offer I had received from an individual too.
Most owners offer 25% of off whatever rate MGM are asking for your dates, but I did find some owners who were offering 30-40% off their rate, unfortunately most of those were booked up! You can barter a bit with them as well if they are private owners, if you're staying for more than 7 nights you should be able to get a little more discount.
It'll be interesting to see how this goes, if it works well I'll definitely consider doing something similar next year.

Cheers,

TC

We have another day in Vegas booked!!!! :cheers :tup :tongue

Decided to look into that extra night so I could surprise my Wife with Sheryl Crow tickets. Managed to book the tickets through Ticketmaster (eventually, having been told it had sold out), arranged with Continental to fly back a day later and then the only hurdle was trying to decide where to stay for that extra night (a Friday night btw).

Very nearly booked the Signature for one night, which was coming out at $109+$15 resort fee, but following the advice of fellow TA members I called the MGM Grand and asked to speak to Casino Marketing to see what they could offer me. They came back with an offer to combine the extra night onto my exisiting booking for the price of $109, a saving of $50 off the cheapest Fat Wallet rate.

Another bonus, we now leave Vegas at 14.56 to fly to Houston (obviously one day later) instead of 11.00, so another 4 hours in Vegas which means more of a lay in and a chance to sample some more Vegas food before heading to the airport.

So now 6 nights in Vegas, all at the MGM and without the hassle of having to move rooms. 12 more days until we fly to Albuquerque.

That's an excellent price for a Friday night, even the Signature rate was good at $109, but at least you won't have to move now.

Can we expect a trip report when you get back?

I contemplated the Signature as it seemed a bit of a no brainer for a similar price ($124 vs $109 at MGM) to the standard MGM room but then I thought about having to check out of the MGM, check into the Signature, leave bags as wouldn't be able to check in etc etc. As things stand it is seamless now, and more importantly when I check into the MGM at the airport (we will fly in from Albuquerque) I can convince my Wife to go and look out for our bags and she won't hear the desk clerk mention 6 nights instead of 5.

Hats off to the MGM. I was very pleased with that rate especially as the cheapest rate at the Excalibur is $2 more for that Friday night and that is for a non renovated standard tower room!!!

Will I do a trip report? Of course. :tup

Ah well....I have just amended my deal again!

6-12 September, at Orleans. I have changed my booking about 4 times now and just saw another better rate!!!

6th (Saturday) $60, 7-12th $29 per night!
This is working out to be a great value trip! Pity the flights didn't come cheap.

$29 a night!!! Now that is cheap.

Now let me think a slighty off strip Vegas hotel for $29 (£15) or a stinky Travelodge on a motorway in England for the same price (booked months in advance to get that rate). As the Americans would say.....you do the math.

Nice one Lesley!!! :tup
