Applying for the visa does have a habit of bringing out the paranoia in a person

Special Delivery shouldn't really get stuck in the normal post - but you never know.
You've got just under 4 weeks which should be long enough - assuming you do everything right first time.
Is it your first time?
You'll need to make sure that you provide all the necessary documents e.g if you are in a certain profession you may need a letter from your employer.
It depends how confident you are that your application won't be rejected for some reason.
Don't forget VFS will be closed over Christmas and New Year.
If you are close to one of the centres and you have the free time to make a personal visit, I'd be inclined to do that.
You can't get a visa on the same day anymore so, depending where the nearest centre is, you might have to make a second journey to collect it.
Some centres (e.g. Manchester) only return your documents by post - you can't collect from there.
All details are on the VFS website.
One advantage of taking your application in person is that they'll check for any mistakes/omissions and you can often correct it at the time.
Sorry I can't help with a recommendation for an agency.
