I suppose it depends on wether you are letting the property or are using it for personal use. If for personal use one set of keys for everyone whom will be using it with an extra set in case of losses.

Some friends of ours bought a villa on the Costa Blanca and they received 6 full sets of keys but I dont know if that is standard or not.

Here in Tenerife most of the estate agents change the locks for you as soon as the property becomes yours. This is not due to crime as such but to the fact that many people will have had keys during hol visits etc.

Our agent changed the locks in our absence on the day of completion and gave us the three keys the next time we were over. The charge was €30

Obviously you will trust your agent by the time you get to completion stage!

The security type locks (the ones with a number of dimples in) usually come with five keys and the idea is that they cannot be copied unless the security tag is produced. However, most hardware stores will just copy them anyway with no proof of ownership.

The replacement barrels for these locks cost about €28 and are easy to replace if you are handy with a screwdriver but make sure the replacement is exactly the same.

It may be a sad reflection on life but I don't trust anybody.
