Just back from Cyprus for the first time since 1988. We stayed at the Souli in Latchi which suited us well. We covered most of the west of the island. The amount of construction going on everywhere is staggering, the countryside is blighted by developers hoardings at almost every turn and speed humps are now common even in the villages. The village of Neo Chorio close to Latchi and the Akamas National Park is being extended considerably which leads to the road past the Souli hotel being quite busy and the speed hump by the hotel rattles the trucks. This would be less of a problem for the sea view rooms. Prices seemed about 25% higher than Greece generally. Weather was excellent and food very good everywhere we ate. Good traditional atmosphere in Polis and tavernas busy at night, much quieter in Latchi. We chose this as a late deal to get some sun after returning from the Peloponesse in July and hoping the BBQ summer might have started, no chance! For us Cyprus is being spoilt and has become too commercial, got hassled by timeshare morons in Paphos, so its Greece again for us next summer, probably.
