hi Jules - we stayed here in 2007 for the 2nd time - AB Fab is how I'd describe it. Take a look at these reviews which my sister & I made (9th & 10th on the page)
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/holiday_truths/hotel_reviews/5014/Club%20Hotel%20Riu%20Tequila/
I'm sure that we will return again before too long. I know many people who have stayed here and none have been dissapointed - including hubby's brother who travels everywhere 5*, and still finds fault

Not stayed at the Tequila but have used 2 Riu hotels in Mexico and the package/service was fantastic.

                Hi Jules,
We loved the riu Tequila when we were there a few years ago- I hope standards haven't dropped for you. Helen's already provided you with the link to my review. The great thing about the riu hotels is that you have a choice of 2 or 3 others next door that you can also use AI

Went there this time last year, great holiday, good food, you can use the Yucatan over the road for lunch, or the Playacar, turn right out of the hotel and over the road, also the Lupita which we did not use. We are considering going beg March again. Staff very good, rooms clean, bedding and towels changed each day. You can walk to Playacar about 35 minutes or get a taxi 50 pesos.

Absolutely LOVE the Tequila (been there 3 times now in 2006, 2007 and 2009). I've not heard of anyone who's been there that doesn't like it.
Weather in September will be hot and humid. Normal weather is sunny for most of the time with a heavy shower during the afternoon lasting about 30 minutes or so.
Cheers
Keith

when we were there this time last year, first four days were very cold evenings, had to sit with fleeces on, some had blankets wrapped round them. The week prior to that was cold too. Then it improved. Thinking of going end Feb beg March should it be ok then evenings

September is well into the hurricane season , weather will be hot and humid with high risk of showers , that is why sept and early Oct are the cheapest months of the year (generally speaking) to go the Caribbean particularly Mexico .
A hotel I used to book all the time and never received any negative feedback , so a good choice in my opinion.

£3.5k..........are you being serious, thats such alot of money, which hotel is that at.
Also, if they told you there was hardly any sun then can I ask why you stll booked it ?
We went to the Caribbean last year in September and although it is rainy season, it only rained 2 days we were there so lets think positic eh

We paid £3,500 for the two of us to stay at Riu Palace, we were there in September one year and it was very hot, it rained a couple of times but only for a short spell and it was still hot.
We went over to Riu Tequila from our hotel which was just opposite us and it was very nice.
The staff at Riu hotels know how to look after their guests, we had a fantastic time and loved every minute of it.

When they say sun they don't mean daylight!
We have spent the last 3 Septembers in Cancun and there was certainly much more than 6 hrs of sun. The sun shone from 7am until around 6pm thats a lot more than 6hrs!

I booked it and then got access to the Thomson website when you've booked which pops up with weather sun etc when it saod 6 hours i was disappointed but then i've got my luxury room with hot tub plasma mini bar etc so I'll be fine.

Can anyone tell me what the dress code for the restaurants at the Tequila is? Specifically do men have to wear shoes or are flip fops ok??
Thank you!

        Thank you!

Buffet you can wear shorts or cropped for men however a la carte retaurants require long trousers for me
Women varies from smart casual to dressy wear what you are happy with
I stayed in the Iberostar Sept 2009 and Rui Tequila May 2011, the weather was much better in May but oved both hotels

Al la Carte also allowed men long shorts, as long as you didnt look as though you had just come off the beach. Saying that some did

hi, can anyone help i'm trying to find the excersions that you can book from this hotel, i can find plently that you can do in mexico but the website wont show me what i can do from this hotel xxxx

Probably the easiest is Xcaret which is just down the road - a 5 minute taxi ride
Further down is Xel Ha and Tulum (about an hour's drive)
Cancun is an easy trip for a cheap day out by using the local ADO buses (air conditioned coaches) from the terminal in PDC
Cozumel (snorkelling) is just over the water on the ferry
There are a few local cenotes, zip lines etc. which can be booked.
There are lots of things to do and see from PDC and don't be afraid to use local transport or use local trip organisers/sellers but DON'T be taken in by the timeshare people who will offer you very cheap trips if you go and look at their hotel. You will save money but waste a day of your holiday.
For trips which you can book specifically from the Tequila you will need to have a word with your travel rep. There are lots of them and the same trips can all be booked from any hotel in PDC but some, such as Chichen Itza, are a long way with lots of travel.
Do some research before you go to narrow down what you think you would like to do then you can finalise things when you get there.
Cheers
