Mossies - rife

They are rife in the East at the minute so it appears, my daughter has been bitten to death and everyone walking with red legs, oh dear, guess who forgot the antihistamines and mossie spray
When do you go Steve? Theres a few of us going on the 19th/6 but all different times. I didn't think May would be so insistent this early in the season?
Anyone know what they are like in the Paphos area?
Allegedly, special forces use Avon Skin-So-Soft. It contains Citronella.
I always have a bottle of Citronella essential oil in my suitcase and a few Citronella tee lights.
It has always deterred the hoards of ants that always seem to descend on us when we're in Cyprus.

It's because it's been wetter this winter and with summer arriving later in Cyprus for some strange reason, there's still lots of greenery and the mossies are out in force.

Its raining green rain in Ayia Napa today 
We got hit by a heavy rainstorm the other night which dumped thick red mud all over the cars. It was hanging in the air but has cleared now. Blue skies, a little cloud with a light breeze. Nice temperatures too.
Just off to the pub for a beer with friends. We're going to the Buccanneer Pub in Erimi Village, Limassol.

oooo Shell i hope thats the last of the rain for cyprus!!! We are coming in a few weeks time. Are the mozzies still troublesome?? I have got mozzie repellent but if they are out in their droves i may have to get an extra tin.

Thanks for the update!!! Think i will bring extra mozzie repellant to be on the safe side
i gather we will need a light jacket for the evenings? I have had a quick look at the temps on web, they are showing 26degs which are nice temps although im hoping for a little hotter

Lily - we are in Cyprus now and haven't seen any mosquitos also the weather is fab no need for a jacket in the evening

I think we can definitely say the summer has now arrived in Cyprus. Wall to wall sunshine this week and temperatures finally hitting the 30's mark.
The mosquitos are still prevalent, you just don't see 'em until after the event
I got bitten 3 times on my foot the other evening as it went very damp outside and cooler so the mossies came indoors. Gits!

Just back from Pernera and lots of mozzies. We used boots aftersun with insect repellant and the bug plug in our room and not one of us out of 6 got bitten by mozzies and we always get bitten when abroad!! My mam got one bite on the beach from a sand fly which was quite big and a solid lump for over a week so watch out for those too!

Just thought that I would mention that Avon are now selling their SSS (soft & fresh) at £1.50.
I have never used it before but think that I will order a bottle after reading all of the mozzie posts on this site today

We got back about 2 weeks ago 
we (me and better half) didn't use any repellants and didn't get bitten... our daughter, partner and children didn't use any repellants and the only person to get bitten was her partner about 3 times... not sure if it was mozzies or not... we did see some (or at least what looked like them through the zoom of the camera) in a pool (private house) that hadn't been drained while they were out of the country and had gone all green...
