Have not stayed at this hotel but have visited menorca in oct. Travel Agent was dubious about the weather but we had a fantastic week of very warm sunshine. Lovely island make sure you hire a car and see some of it as its not too far to anywhere
I've stayed at the Vista Blanes apartments for the last two years during the October half terms. The apartments are fairly basic (officially 2 keys) but clean and very close to the beach. Apart from the beach though there isn't much to do in Cala'n Blanes itself. Close neighbour Cala'n Forcat has a bit more going on with an Aqua center and more choice of restaurants and shops though the tiny little beach isn't as good. You can walk into the centre of Cala'n Forcat in about 20 minutes from the apartments or drive there in less than 5 minutes. Don't expect much Menorcan character though. For that you should visit Ciutadella which has a lovely port and old town to wander around.
Weather-wise last year we arrived in the pouring rain then had 9 days of sunny weather with temperatures hovering between the low-mid 20's celsius. In 2004 we had 6 hot sunny days followed by 4 days of more mixed weather. As October can often be the wettest month of the year in the Balearics you can't guarantee sunshine every day but it's still much better and warmer than the weather in this country unless you are very unlucky.
I agree with Carrot. Hire a car and tour the island even if only for a few days. You can even get to Mahon on the other side of the island in less than an hour by car. The beaches and resorts are also far less crowded than they are in the summer months so you won't be packed in like sardines anywhere. If you like beaches, Cala Galdana, Arenal d'en Castell and Son Bou are all worth a visit and Cala'n Bosch has a pleasant new marina to wander round.
I've recently posted some of the photographs I took in Menorca (Ciutadella, Cala'n Blanes, Arenal d'en Castell, Cala Galdana, Mahon harbour) in the HT photo gallery, including interiors of the Vista Blanes apartment if you want to see for yourself what you can expect to find.
