Hi, apparently becuase the main religion is Islam they believe you should only wash under running water and therefore very few places have plugs in their wash basins. I have been told this by many friends who visit Turkey regularly.
Best advice is to go to your local DIY or supermarket and buy a couple of universal plugs and bring them with you.
It is true that most hotels will not have plugs in the bathroom, however many keep some at reception which you can request.
Sprattling was right, this is because of the belief that you can only be truely clean via running water.

I used to squish a half lemon into the plughole - it does to keep the water in the basin if you're doing a wee bit of washing etc.

Thanks for the tip about the lemon Elaine.
A squash ball does the same job
you can buy some plugs which have a very large upper part with a small centre part. So they will fit various sizes
Incidentally if anyone is staying in Bitez at the okaliptus hotel , mine is in room 223
