Hi, staying at the Seven Seas in August. Google Earth shows a stretch of water, like an old river, and indeed a river itself, close to the hotel.
Anyone know if its ok/any good to fish there ?
We stayed at the Seven Seas last year. There is indeed a lake close by, but I'm afraid I'm not sure about the fishing. I vaguely recollect seeing some-one fishing there, but I'm not sure. There is also the river which flows through Manavgat nearby. The hotel is great. The only problem was the smoking in the restaurant, but now Turkey has the same law as here , that should be fine now. Have a wonderful holiday!
Here is a link to information and pictures of the lake. http://www.sideguide.net/default.asp?inc=side_details&intRecordID=28 It is a useful website on Side generally as well.

The lake is the Tireyengol - shaking lake - don't know about fishing in that area, but we went on a day trip up to the koprulu canyon set in the hills about a 20min bus ride away, where you take a boat tour of the dam - absolutely beautiful! - and I saw several people fishing there......it's an option with the excursion, try onur/ogur tours. I've also seen people fishing off the jetty in Side old town, just at the bottom of the main street and turn right.....next to the 'Orfuz' restaurant.

thanks folks, I will pack a telescopic to be on the safe side.
Mehmeh, have you any idea if you can just hire a mountain bike at the seven seas, or is it just the guided rides ?
Thanks again

I'm not sure, but from the conversation behind me on the coach to the airport, it sounded like those people had just gone off on bikes by themselves, (they were pointing out where they went). So you can probably just hire them. However it was too hot for us in May/June for cycling, so in August I should think it would kill you! I suppose very early or late in the day might be OK. At least it is flat in the immediate area and the roads were empty of traffic. There are lovely pine woods, the Sorgun forest, between the hotel and Side.
The guided trips seemed to go every morning and afternoon when we were there. They were listed on the daily activity board by the main pool.

Thanks again. Early and late was the plan.
Oh yes, be sure to eat in the Italian a la carte. No extra cost. Just book at reception at 9am. It is in what was apparently the casino originally. Very splendid. Meal was good too.
Thank you. I did read your review and found it helpful. Any info and tips would be much appreciated as the family is in that pre holiday buzz mode right now.
Our only experience of Turkey is 2 day trips to Bodrum, from Kos, some years back, so the anticipation is high !
Remember when we all arrived on holiday not knowing what to expect...?

We went into Side and booked our excursions with an agency there. Afterwards we found there was an agency in the shops beween the hotel and the lake, so could have booked there. Be aware though that any trips booked with these outside agencies will have various nationalities on them. If you want only British and therefore only one set of tour guide info, you will need to book with the rep. However, the rep doesn't offer all the trips. We wanted quad bikes and the 3 day Cappadokia trip, neither of which Thomsons did. They (Thomsons) were pushing a day trip to Northern Cyprus which sounded good until I asked what time the pick-up was and they said 4am!
Noticed they kept very quiet about this. Obviously hoped you would sign up without asking..... So be warned. You could ask the agencies about a fishing trip. I noticed all the ones in Olu Deniz this year were doing one.

The othe answer to this is to do as I did for Gran Canaria
I Googled for "carp Fishing _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _" and found some and sorted it out DIY ensuring they had insurance and everything first
I saved my self quite a bit as booking through an agent would have cost me a lot more
try it

thanks for the tip, however I just want to do a spot of fishing whilst on holiday, rather than have a fishing holiday. A few hours here and there.
I like the idea of the northern cyprus trip. Any idea of the rough costs for this, does it go from Side etc. Dont mind the early get up

I think they took you back to Antalya airport for the flight to Cyprus. Can't remember cost exactly, but about £70 I think.
