Before you do anything else you need to speak to your insurance company. If you don't inform them about this and confirm that they are still willing to cover you to travel - as opposed to covering the costs of cancelling the holiday - and something happens while you are away, then you could find that they will refuse to cover the cost of any treatment etc you might end up needing because you did not inform them about this.

If they will still cover you (and you might have to pay extra to extend your cover) then they will probably want confirmation from either your GP or the consultant that you are fit for travel. If as you say, the surgeon is not happy and willing to provide this but then you still travel against his advice then you could again find that you won't be covered if anything happens while you are away. Either way you could find that this turns into the most expensive holiday you've even had if you end up with large hospital bills for surgery while you are out there and that's before you even begin to consider the cost of being repatriated for treatment here.

I have had a quote from a insurance company that deal with illness and disability and to cover gallstones as a pre existing condition and being aware that im awaiting treatment the cost was £59.00

I thought id ring and double check the details rather than just do it online.

Have you actually informed your insurance company about your condition. I had gallstones surgery earlier on this year and my insurance company wouldn't cover me to travel during the time I was waiting to go into hospital and for six months after the op.

I personally doubt the insurance company will cover you based on the information you have posted. I also think that a premium of £59.00 does not reflect the cover you need. If your consultant is not happy for you to travel then take his advice. The insurance should cover you to cancel providing it was not a "known" pre-existing condition when you booked the holiday.

Are we being negative? Not in my opinion as both SMa and Judith are experienced travelers and as long standing members of HT know of many horror stories from people asking for help here on HT.

Did you take out insurance when you booked the holiday?
If you have just phoned since you were diagnosed do they know that the Surgeon doesnt advise you to go on holiday?
Its unlikely they will pay out should you have an acute attack whilst away.
You could end up with a medical bill of several thousand pound should you require medical care in Marmaris.

So are you saying that you don't yet have any insurance in place? If that is the case I am very surprised that any company is willing to provide cover given the facts you have given us here. You will have to give a full history, including the number of attacks and the hospital treatment etc. Leave one fact out and you give them an excuse to refuse any claim that you might need to make. Also, I would be surprised if they are willing to provide cancellation cover in your circumstances because the odds are that there is a high risk that you would have to cancel. Insurance companies are reluctant to take on anything other than a safe bet that you won't need to claim.

I'm sorry if this all sounds rather negative but if you travel without ensuring that they will meet all possible claims then you really do have few options other that to accept that you might have to cancel and absorb the loss if you can't eg sell the holiday on for the cost of a name change.

Just as a little update, I have spoken with a specialist insurance company this morning on the phone, explained my situation, and went through the medical screening, and they were able to offer me insurance which would cover any hospital treatment or visits to the doctor. for £100.00 for 10 days,

I will be following low fat diet to the book no alcohol and taking all my painkillers with me. I feel relieved that I know im covered. I think it certainly helps to still speak to real people when sorting insurance out for health issues sometimes that just going through the computer. Im on holiday with two nursing friends also so im feeling a little more settled.
I will be using these next three weeks to tweak my diet and find what works for me so hopefully no attacks :)
