Weather can be hit and miss but still a lot warmer than uk. We`ve been to both Majorca and Ibiza at this time of year. We`ve managed to walk round in t shirts and shorts during the day but have needed a light jacket on some nights.
Resort wise Mgalluf and Palma Nova should be your best bet for things open but quite a lot will be closing or have just close. You should still have enough open to keep you busy. Palma should be open. I would think that most other resorts wil be fairly quiet as most things will have closed for the winter. You may find on your first few days that things wil be open but will close latter on that week.

As somebody that lives here all year round i have to be brutally honest and say that i really would not recommend that you come here "out of season". Yes, in the south, you may find that there are things open but they will be few and far between.
Best go to the Canary Islands for your winter break.

My sentiments too ! I live in Playa de Palma and apart from other resorts and of course Palma in the south, all the other resorts close down on the 31st Oct. If you're looking for peace and quiet, be all means come and see the real Mallorca. If you're looking for life and nightlife, look to the Canaries.
Hi guys, we are trying to decide whether to book a holiday in S'Illot. We are not at all familiar with Majorca, but do not like overly lively tourist resorts. We will be taking our 17, 14, & 9 year olds. We would like to have someplaces to explore,go shopping, entertainment, etc. we have also thought about hiring a car but do not know if that would be a wise decsion as we have no idea what the roads are like!
We welcome as many ideas as to the best resort/area to stay for a family. Also is the local bus service quite reliable?
One last thing how does Majorca compare to Menorca as we have not been there either?!
Thanks.

Without knowing your likes/dislikes I hesitate to recommend a resort, read thru this forum for ideas. You might like to start here...

Roads are generally excellent, often better than many parts of the UK, so car-hire is no problem. The bus service is excellent and reliable, but tends to run out of Palma to specific resorts, like the spokes of a wheel. So getting around lots of resorts in one day is not that easy...

Menorca vs Mallorca ? Been to both, Mallorca beats Menorca hands down on every score...personal taste.

Thank you for the reply. I have been looking at loads of info on the island & S'Illot certainly seems to be fairly quiet but within reach of a number of places. I think we will probably give it a try. Still trying to decide on the car hire & whether we would need it for 2 weeks or just a few days. Heard that there are some good attractions on the island as well. So far so good !
Why not have a look through our resort reports to help you decide

S'illot is a nice friendly resort. If you hire a car you will be able to explore the rest of the island, personally go to Palma on the bus or train.Traffic is crazy and parking a nightmare.CBG
