Bom Dia's, I have had a few holidays on the Algarve, done Lisbon twice for city breaks and had a two week holiday in Estoril (Lisbon coast) I am thinking of going to Porto for my birthday in November. Has any body ever been here, and could they tellme what it is like?

                Hi Dave,
We went to Porto in June last year. It's a wonderful atmospheric city, very Portuguese, steep streets that lead down to the river Douro. Cross the river and you can visit the old Port lodges and sample a few! They are modernising that side of the river now. There are also boat trips up the river. The best ones go a long way up past the locks and into superb scenery. You need a day to do this and generally return on the train. There are also 2 day trips that go up to the Spanish border.
I would think you need longer than a weekend to see the surrounding area but if you just want a feel for the city you should be OK. The weather in this part of Portugal is very different from Lisbon and the algarve. It is much cooler and rains a lot so I don't think November would be a good time to go. Hope this helps.
