Ruth, I haven't been to the Algarve to play golf yet, but am going in a couple of weeks . My understanding from looking around the interweb is that many courses like to have maximum occupancy and try to combine individual players and smaller groups into four-balls. As your husband will be on his own, it seems likely that he will be joined with other golfers.
If anyone has golfed in the Algarve, i would be interested in knowing whether this is actually the case for the majority of courses.

Yes that happened to us last year. We played has a 2 ball but where paired up with another 2 ball. Other times I've played I've been in 4 balls so would not have known. I'm off next Monday and will be playing 3 rounds of golf and we are a 2 ball. I'll let you know if we get paired up.

just to say thanks, went to Luis bar and hubby met 3 players who were having a round in 2 days time, they even lent him clubs and shoes to save him hiring!
shame he beat them though!!
