Is santorini suitable for a family holiday ?? - or would there be very few familes and children there - is it more of an adult only island ?
I was mainly looking at Perissa - but unsure. Have also heard the water becomes very deep very quickly and that the balck sand is not very child friendly as is pebbly and very very hot.
Any thoughts much appreciated

I can only speak of Kamari, Santorini where we (3 couples) stayed last summer. I would not recommend this resort for families with children. As you've already mentioned the black sand was absolutely boiling hot and almost unbearable to just run out of the sea to the lounger (even wearing flip flops). Also, there was nothing at all there for children to do.
The scenery was breathtaking and we had a wonderful holiday but there weren't many children around. My advice would be to look elsewhere.
