It's probably pushing the limits of how long you want to travel, but I would really recommend a guided coach trip up to Valencia. It's a very old city, the one that El Cid ruled for some years, and many of the old buildings have been taken over as local authourity offices but beautifully preserved.
The cathedral is very nice, with different architectural styles as it has been both a christian cathedral and an islamic mosque in it's time and extended by both religions.
The new opera house is a gorgeous building, a real triumph of design. The indoor market is fascinating, and the little winding streets are "real Spain" .

Sungazer, can you give me a rough idea of just how long it takes to reach Valencia please.
My parents and I have often thought about doing that excursion but have been put off by rumours that you spend more time travelling on the coach than the actual time you get to spend in the City.

Hi BHIC. I wish I could be really accurate about this. It's about 3 years ago that we went to Valencia. If I remember rightly, the trip took about an hour, but you can double that with all the pick ups around the various hotels. We were also lucky in that some of the coach guides just leave you in Valencia to find your own way around, but ours was also an accredited Valencia guide. He told us that officially he couldn't charge us for the tour around the town, but any tips we gave him would be given to a local animal sanctuary he supported, so the entire coach shelled out and he gave us an excellent guided walk around the city. Without him we wouldn't have appreciated half of it, so if you go try to get a guided tour or at least a good guide book.
You could always do what we did
which was get on the right no. bus but going in the wrong direction! We had a wonderful mystery tour and ended up at the retail park when we wanted to go to Levante club. We then had to pay again, get back on the same bus and do it all backwards
That took well over an hour.
