hi all.......sorry not been back on sooner....well it turned out rm did deliver our passports but never got them signed...our visas wereback to us within the week!! woo hooo!!! i will never use rm again as if they had lost them it would have cost us a fortune as well as lots of hassle...Im very impresed with the Edi consulate....received the passports on the thursday and we had them back to us within 7 days....im soo relieved

niptuckfan do you mean that royal mail delivered the passports to the indian embassy but didn't get the special delivery receipt signed?

yes thats what happened they didnt get it signed for....luckliy the embassy had processed it within a few days and we were able to track it on their website....i presume that the postie had a lot to deliver and for some reason missed mine with the barcode sign thingy....i will still never use them again as their customer service was awful.....they were wanting us to wait 15 working days before they could do anything.....by which time we would have not been able to get new passports/visas in time for our hols....anways its all over and i can now be excited about my holiday again woo hoo!

Royal Mail not to be trusted where we live. For the last 2 years they have said that a card has been left at our house because we were not at home and the package has been returned to Royal Mail office for collection. Complete rubbish! We were waiting daily for the postman this year knowing that they had left the Embassy but they still did not put a No Access card through the door. The problem is made worse because if they have it for longer than a week they return it to sender. I took this up with the postman who said it was his day off. I asked him why they did not have a copy of the No Access Card for proof that they have left one. He said there was only one card and no duplicate. I complained bitterly with Royal Mail and in the end I was given a book of stamps as compensation. Big Deal!
Bottom line is keep a note of the return Tracking Reference Number then you know when it should be delivered, anything more than a day late check with Royal Mail in case the postman cant be bothered writing the card.

Before I gave up working full time, my postman used to write out a card at the sorting office and left my parcel there. Apparently, it is very common for the posties to do that because they just cannot carry all of the parcels or packets that go through the depot.
