Haven't been to either of these hotels for s couple of years but have kept a close eye on them as I've got firends who work at both.

They are two totally different hotels, Esmeralda is close enough to the town to walk so that you have immediate access to the shops and bars etc. San Eloy is a fair way out of town so we always ended up catch their bus which if I remember right ran about once every hour, the last one being about 9pm-ish.

Food was always fine at the San Eloy but then again I've heard mixed reviews. Never found the evening entertainment up to much at the San Eloy, tended to be based around small children (great though if you have some).

Rooms at the San Eloy always tended to be big & the advantage of having two separate bedrooms was good, also liked the separate living & kitchen areas.
