Strike threat for Belgium

Flights and rail services face disruption on Monday in Belgium due to a planned general strike.

Ryanair is warning passengers it might have to cancel all flights to and from Brussels Charleroi Airport on 30 January and is advising passengers to check its website for information.

"If we are forced to cancel flights a list of affected flights will be published on our homepage on Friday 27 January," it said.

Eurostar announced this morning that services to and from Brussels will be cancelled from 22:00 CET on 29 January to 22:00 CET on 30 January.

Trains will terminate and commence at Lille Europe station.

A limited replacement coach service will operate between Lille Europe and Brussels Midi stations in both directions but Eurostar warned that demand is likely to be high and both stations are expected to become busy as a result.

It advised passengers to exchange their tickets for travel before or after. Eurostar will allow exchanges free of charge regardless of ticket conditions, but subject to availability on alternative services.

Public and private sector workers in Belgium are planning a one-day strike on the day of an EU summit in Brussels.
