Thanks Lorraine. There's obviously plenty to do without gambling.

Do you have plans to go back again or have you done it all?

Another great report :tup We are off to LV next thursday and cant wait!

Interesting to hear it from a non gamblers point of view.

Must give Ellis island a try it seems excellent value, Did you walk there?

What type of music do the Crashers play?

Thanks Mark

Great trip report, have to agree about the IP, the location is brilliant.

We walked to Ellis Island twice from the IP, about 15-20 mins. The food in there is great, I had chicken fried chicken, and i still crave it daily.

Lorraine, thanks for the excellent TR. I wouldn't have suggested sitting where we did if I'd known you didn't like Elvis, sorry about that. you have given me something to aim for when I do our TR for sure. Mine will probably be a lot less informative and interesting than yours.

It was good to meet you both again. and at least you know I'm not making Tony up. He rarely appears at these meet type thing, he prefers to be incognito. ;-)

Wow, great trip report and very honest. :tup

I must admit I am astounded by your experience of noise in the MGM rooms. I've stayed there the past two years and haven't heard one single thing when in the room, certainly not any airport noise and I was facing that way last year. I'm not going to go into my pro MGM rant because everybody knows how much I love the property, but I am disappointed you didn't enjoy your time in the hotel. Without a doubt in my mind it is better than both Excalibur and Luxor.

Zumanity is very much love or loathe in my opinion. I've never seen a show have such a wide spread of reviews. We enjoyed it, and it is certainly better than Mystere, but KA still rocks for me!! Not got round to seeing the others yet. Dirk Arthur is another one, I actually really enjoyed his show, sure it's cheesy as hell but he did a good job. For an afternoon show $13 was good value I thought for tickets, I mean $13 would have been gone in 2-3 mins in a casino!!

I've made some mental notes of some of the cheap places you ate and drank as that will help us no end on our next trip (whenever that is!!!). I've always been tempted by the $3.99 La Salsa Cantina brekkie but always thought its too cheap, it surely can't be any good...so thanks for pointing me in that direction. As for the hour wait in Dennys....no chance in hell, I'm with you on that one!!!

Our aim is to spend more time around the mid strip area next time, although we still prefer to stay south strip. Some of the experiences you have had in that area has convinced me so thanks for that.

great trip report Tango :tup

Just shows you how different people see things......differently :think :D

I thought Zumanity was rubbish, but love MGM as Ju does and didn't have any hassles at all there, we faced the airport one time too.

Agree on Love - top show. Not quite as good as 'O' but not far off.

I can't wait to go now.......4 months for me to wait.... :duh

I'm going to make sure we book 'O' before we go next time.....I know you are not likely to get offers on tickets for that show so I may as well book it direct

Great report. You seem to like a lot of our cheap haunts - O'Sheas, Bill's etc. Need to try Dick's Last Resort this trip too.

Also I think I want to see my first Cirque show, so I'm looking for suggestions. Sounds like Zumanity is a bad idea. I'm not into the Beatles so not sure about Love either. I need to look up what they all are.

After reading this review I'm tempted to stick with the Paris reservation we have....instead of changing to Excalibur - just due to the closeness to those cheap mid strip watering holes!

I must admit to feeling a bit out of the way when we were at Excalibur. I have stayed at MGM before, but that seemed less isolated. I decided it was because we are just not used to the South Strip area. We didn't go to Dick's because it always seemed a bit too loud for me.

Lesley, we enjoyed Ka. it was our first Cirque show and even Tony enjoyed it, and he didn't know a thing about it beforehand.

Lesley,
Although we both enjoyed Zumanity I wouldn't recommend it for your first ever CDS show. It clearly sways opinion like no other show in Vegas and is too much of a risk in case you fall on the negative side of things. Mystere is old school CDS and does feature more of the circus and acrobatic acts that you would associate with the group, but the annoying crying baby is just overdone to death and although it was stunning in places, my overriding memory is of that baby. Most of the regulars on TA do recommend Mystere to a CDS newcomer but I would go with KA. Ignoring the somewhat bizarre and difficult to follow storyline, the theatre is worth seeing alone and I felt the acts were superior to any of the other CDS shows I've seen. Of course I haven't seen them all, but certainly the CDS shows that are normally on offer (Love is now starting to discount as well), KA is the best.

Dick's Last Resort is hellish. Never again, but it does have a lot of fans.

Thanks for the Cirque info. Can you outline the bizarre story for me? Should I look this up online, or might I ruin the plot?

I would avoid reading too much into the storyline or plot. There is one, but it is lost within the spectacle of the production. I know how I felt, and last year my Brother saw it as well, loved it, but did admit to not having a clue what was going on!!!!

I don't think you can compare a CDS show to anything else in a theatre. It's circus, gone upmarket and whilst it's not to everybodys taste, I think the value you get from KA (paid $50ea for super seats in 2007) and to a lesser degree the other two I've seen is excellent for Vegas. You really feel part of the show and as I said the theatres are stunning (moreso with KA).

Of course you can quite easily get someone saying they slept through the entire performance as well....that's what I mean by dividing opinion.

Just to confirm Dicks is a good night when the live music is on but it's not on every night....drinks are not cheap here either....Beer and Vodka+sprite is $12......same in Bills is $7
