I wouldn't mind betting that you will be on a 767, Mr Shearer.
They still do not seem to be any nearer finding a solution to the battery problems. Then there will be the next lot of problems.

To be honest don't matter what plane flies me there, I would have liked to have tried the dreamliner this year but I'll fly on it next year.
Just hope the replacement plane is a First Choice 767 liked them better than Thomson one's.

I have only booked my May holiday to fit in with the Dreamliner launch. I was assured when I booked that it would not be changed again (bearing in mind this has been going on since 2009). If the problems are not resolved by my holiday, I will not be going until it is.

I travel these routes regularly and have paid a considerable amount higher than the 767 prices. I love every aspect of my holidays but this one was only because of the 787 launch. I still hope all is well and I go as expected but if It does not I expect compensating for the inconvenience.

I do very much appreciate your help in this forum as you have helped me on numerous occasions but do feel this point needs addressing as obviously it's Boeings problem, but I won't be compensated by them if it all goes wrong.

Given the problems with the Dreamliner, and having booked Premium Upgrade to Mexico, we have been having trouble in obtaining a yes/no answer for the past week with Thomson whether they can guarantee our seats in Premium .. this i still ongoing with them.

However, I have been told that from another source that as from March thomson will be re-introducting their EX-Thomsonfly aircrafts to run the Cancun route, which in theory will accommodate 31 passengers in Premium as opposed to 47 in Premium on the Dreamliner.

Do you have any knowlege of this?

Given no one knows anything at the moment on how long it's going to take for Boeing to finish the fix and deliver the 787-8's, I'm not surprised they can't give you a guarantee as they won't be sure what aircraft they'll be using yet. I would leave it for the time being until information is known. I believe some flights towards the end of the winter season before the 787-8's are introduced will be ex-TOM to accommodate more passengers in readiness for the return flight. I was under the impression it was just the last couple of weeks of the season, not from March. I wouldn't worry too much at this stage, it's a while before you travel and anything could hapen between now and then as everything is in Boeings hands.

I have to agree with Darren on this Thomson are caught in the middle and can do nothing they like all Airlines with Dreamliner's are in the hands of Boeing.
I just hope that Thomson give back the extra money customers have payed to fly on the Dreamliner without a fuss.

Well, I've just had a phone call the Directors Support Team. The bottom line is they cannot guarantee my seat in Premium,they will not offer me a refund, and they cannot advise what the time scale will be in contacting customers prior to their flight of any possible changes!!

The only thing they can guarantee me,is that if aircrafts are switched and I have to travel in Economy (which I won't) they will refund the difference .... very good of them!!!!

Pat, what do you want them to say? They are as in the dark as everyone else at this stage. They can only go by what they are being told. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.
If they let people cancel because of a potential change of aircraft, what date do they let cancellations go up to? If the Dreamliner is in service and people have cancelled, they will be back on to Thomsons asking for their holiday back, and if the prices have gone up, they'll be moaning that they want it at the original price.
No matter who you book with, aircraft are never guaranteed, and are subject to change anyway. You wouldn't be the first person to book premium and not receive it.

pat, be aware that if you refuse to travel at all (Economy rather than Premium) then you won't be covered by insurance and will have a major battle on your hands to get ANY refund from Thomson. Plane substitutions have happened in the past but I can't remember anyone posting to say that they had got a full refund.Indeed,some have struggled for months to even get the Premium upgrade cost back.

Is that possession is 9 10ths of the law we have your money did not give you what you paid for but hey we will give you a refund if we feel like it??

I think that you are right qatarman. But I am also worried that if Pat refuses to travel it will weaken her position

It's very difficult because I dont think I could travel long haul without extra legroom seats anymore, due to medical issues so you book thinking you have covered all bases and then of course something comes at you from left field.

You are right but what really gets up my nose is if in the business i am in we gave customer service like Holiday Company's we would be closed down.

Me too I would be out of business and unable to afford a holiday
It's always a fight when things go wrong when it shouldn't be, all people want at this stage is a willingness that IF the 787 is not available that there will be options or refunds available as I won't travel economy either but still let's all hope the problems are sorted before it's an issue for 100's of people.

I think if you refuse to travel then you'll lose your holiday I'm afraid, or at least your deposit and a percentage of the cost subject to how close to your departure date that you cancel. Most airlines and holiday companies have situations like this covered in terms and conditions in that they have the right to change aircraft due to operational reasons. In this case, given the aircraft may or may not be delivered, what can they say or do at the moment? Is flying in premium really that important to cancel the holiday? Surely the most important part of the holiday is the bit between the flights and if you don't get your premium seat, it'll be refunded so you won't lose anything other than a couple of inches of seat pitch and complimentory drinks (not free!). While premium economy is nice, for me at least, it's not all that important and economy is pretty good these days on TOM.

Yes, flying Premium is important to me. I am claustrophobic and given the few extra inches of legroom and quieter cabin in Premium makes for a more comfortable flight for me.

As for cancelling .. have yet to decide, but if we do it will be with the loss of our deposit.

I'm worried that what might happen to Pat may happen to me. I've booked a British Airways flight and am going in the front part of the plane that is deemed to be business so you get the extra leg room, but i'm wondering if I could end up in a standard seat even though I have paid extra if they change the aircraft.

Sometimes you don't actually want a refund you kind of want what you booked. I appreciate this thread is a bit different as it is down to Boeing not Thomson, but I have got the same kind of worries as I also feel claustrophobic in small spaces and have issues with my joints if crammed in a small space for any length of time.
