What I do is tip whoever cleans my room on the first day, a couple of quid in local currency will ensure the room/towels are always clean.
If we get good service then we do tip as recognition and appreciation for a job well done.
If they are good you use them again, this and recomendations to other tourists they consider to be the best tip they can get.
We have used various ones over the years and remember a tuk tuk driver we used 3 times who when we were going to Mapusa told him it was our last day, stopped on the way back and bought us some cashews as a present .

A taxi is a taxi is a taxi, to me there is no difference in who you have. They all drive the same, they all get you from a to b and they all try and charge you the most ridiculous amount when you first ask. Same with the tuk tuks.
So in my world when I want a taxi I get who evers nearest, if they don't want to take me somewhere at my price then another one will spring up and do it.

Maybe Vegasone experienced the same as I did where the taxi/tuttut driver has wanted 3 times the the normal cost of a taxi to a certain place thinking we didn't know the costs. It's not a harsh comment as such but a real one.

Vegasone do they think we are all buffoons! 250 rupees what a rip off!
Follow this link for an approximate guide of what you can expect to pay for taxi's.
We have been to Goa 6 times and always used the same taxi driver, he had become a good friend - or so we thought, this visit we took him for meals whilst we were on route somewhere, met up with him sometimes for drinks - all paid for, tipped him well also during our stay, which we always do, but this time we felt ripped off a little, when we went to Palolim one day, stayed over in one of the beach shacks, paid for his room, food drinks, took us home the next day to Candolim and still charged us 1500rs. Picked us up from the airport and took us back 700 rs each way, wont be using him again next year, It upset me really but they say dont mix business with pleasure!

The Taxi price list (was from last year) and originates from Calangute... I will try and do a fresh one for next season as people do find it very useful (especially the newbies...).
I feel that if you have a safe driver it is worth paying a bit more, at least you will hopefully avoid hospital bills. Please remeber that a trip to Palolem is two days work for the driver and is still less than £20. How far would you get in the UK for that?
I do agree however, that some taxi driver are getting greedy, and would always say to get a price before you get in. I do not feel however, that you were overcharged.

You can tell us what the new hospital is like then! I put my safety and that of my family first, I think our live are worth more than a couple of quid. But it takes all sorts.
blimey. did you read my post, it was my opinion, there's really no need to post such a negative load of tripe after it.Do you honestly think that because I want to pay 600 rps from the airport and you want to pay 700 rps because you have a driver who is a good driver that I might end up in hospital?
Goan taxi drivers all moan and complain that they haven't got any business, yet they are happy to sleep all afternoon in the back of their taxi's outside the hotels. You wouldn't catch a single one of them doing a REAL job like mending the roads or working on a building site as the out of staters do (who earn RS 150/- PER DAY)!!!
I never ever used to complain about the price of taxi's (or anything else for that matter), but this year they all seem to be getting a little greedy. I was told that a trip to the airport would be RS 800/- because it was at 4.30am and the driver had to get up early, what a shame!!!!
GFF xx
Apparently having checked with my partner we paid 2000rs, and yes I can understand that its 2 days business for him (infact it was a day and a half) but we thought that as well as the fare it would be `a treat` - maybe were to soft!! apart from that were not tight and tip quite generously but I agree with you that they getting greedy.
