Looking at the Renfe website http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/index.html it doesn't look as though any of the stations the Girona trains use are near the port. The two nearest metro stations are Drassanes (L3) and Barceloneta (L4). There are maps and some info on this website: http://www.transportebcn.es/GEN/mapas.html.

Trains from Girona seem to go into Sants station and that's on L3 and only 6 stops from Drassanes.

I will have a look at the site you give..

We are staying at Tossa Del Mar in June and are aiming to make up our own day trip to Barca by train, catching one from the Malgrat station .
We hoped there maybe a stop near to the Port and La Ramblas area.

The coastal train stops right in the centre at the Placa de catalunya. This is right at the top of the Ramblas. You walk straight down the ramblas to the Port.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, looking at my map this stop will be just fine and we can browse our way done the Ramblas towards the Port , fantastic !!
