Protaras is a bit out of the way in terms of public transport. A local bus passes through, Paralimni to Ayia Napa via Protaras, so it is a case of car hire or going on an excursion (they start very early in the morning).
Book in a local travel agent, there are several in Protaras. Do not book trips through tour operators as you get ripped off.

Try a website i found. http://www.discoverpaphos.com
Its a website dedicated just to Paphos, and tells you all about trips, bars, restaurants etc.

thanks a lot i really appreciate that, as i have searched the net and didnt seem to find anything, have you been to paphos before then?
No i havent been to Pathos. Been twice before, both times stopping in Protaras. Going back again next year to...... yes, youve guessed it, Protaras! We love it there. Next year there will be 6adults and 4kids, so should be fun! We know a number of friends who have stayed in Paphos, and loved every minute of it. Im sure you will aswell.
Make sure you visit Troodos mountains - waterfalls are beautiful!

the mountains sound reallt great are there any pools within any caves or anything, not sure how to describe them?
Not sure about pools in caves, but as you drive upto mountains, you can stop off where a lovely, old cypriot man lives, and he charges you to visit his garden, but what a garden! He has hens, etc roaming free, you follow a path down through his lovely garden, all downhill, until you come to a beautiful waterfall. Yes, he has his very own waterfall in his garden! My 2children dived straight in, but beware, they said the water was very cold! When we were leaving, he asked, in broken English, if we would like to buy some of his own grown peaches, which we did. They were delicious, and not a bad price-£1.50 for a bag, and we must have had at least 8 in the bag! You must visit this garden, you cant miss it as there is only 1 road upto the mountains. Drive further up, and you come to some breathtaking little villages, some perched right on the end of the mountains! We even passed a hotel been built. It was in the middle of nowhere! okay if you like it quiet, but a bit too remote for me!!
yopu have been a great help and defnitely something that i will keep in mind, as it sounds wicked
Not really a cave as such, but there is a place called Adonis Baths just to the north of Paphos. Its a small pool (icy cold even in August!) beneath a waterfall. It's similar to a flooded quarry and is on the tourist trail, including all the Fun Buses.
To get there you head towards Coral Bay and turn right as you approach Coral Bay itself. You should see some small hand painted signs and you follow thes, eventually going off road along a dirt track. You can do it in a car but a 4wd is better. There is a small entrance fee, refreshments and a cafe/taverna with a nice view as you travel towards it.
Its nice when its quiet, but it's pot luck in August!
Nick.

so the water is going to be cold there? i am going july august so will be busy then i take it. but thanks for the info
Yes it's freezing! If you are brave/foolish enough, you can dive off the top, or the sides, into the pool. Its quite deep at the end. There are a few ropes to help haul you up the rocks.
It's got a so-called "legend" attached to the place, but I've been told by locals that you should take it with a pinch of salt....
Probably worth a trip, if only just to cool off.
If you really want to cool off though, try Scuba Diving when you are in Paphos. Plenty of places to book with, even for try-dive sessions.

Sorry but only just noticed your excursion posting. If anyone in your group is 25 or over, suggest you rent a jeep. It will be far cheaper, and lets you visit some of the more interesting parts of the island that only the specialised tours go to, and when you want to as well. If so, don't forget the driving licence.
just found out that an extra friend is coming over and his family lives in pahos and they have got rav4 that they borrow so that should be good.
I am only going for a week in Sept, anyone recomend anything that is a must see.
The Wife wants to go on a jeep safari but not as we are going to a jungle

The jeep safaris are good. You want one that will take you up to the Akamas peninsula - fabulous scenery and mostly inaccessible with an ordinary car.
I also recommend the bus trip to Kykkos Monastery. This will takwe you right up into the mou tains where you will see small villages and a different side of Cyprus - wonderful mountain views.
