Im travelling with my 11 year old daughter, so unsure whether to go there or Icelamer....ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!!

We have resort reports here http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/turkey/dalaman-region/turunc/
Turunc is very small not much to this Location, However their is a dolmus that runs to Icmeler and Marmaris that leaves from the main street in Turunc.
you can also get the taxi boat from Turunc to Icmeler for 15ytl return, we normally go to Icmeler for our holidays but find we like to go to Turunc for the day to relax
Maybe I will go to Icmeler there is more to do there, I have friends going to Turunc so can visit whenever I want then.......thanks for the replies so far!!!!!!
Turunc
I personally couldn't stay there for a two week holiday.
There's nothing there.
It's okay for an hour stopover on the lazy day boat trips.
Marmaris is the best place.

Hi.
I've popped into Turunc a couple of times over the years and I would say it is on the small and quiet side, but not absolutely tiny. There is a fair sized beach and as long as you don't want to try a new restaurant every night you be be ok.
Last year I went there on the dolmus from Icmeler and noticed that the prices semed a bit higher e.g. 3 YTL for a beer in Icmeler but the cheapest I could find in Turnuc was 4YTL.
Personally I wouldn't book a fortnight there, but if you intend to mostly chill out and also take a few trips you may just survive it

sorry i disagree; our first holiday to Turkey was in Turunc with 13 year old son (for 2 weeks) and could have stayed longer . Our son still says it was best holiday and he's nearly 17 now!
And we didn't manage to try every restaurant.
Visited Icmeler and Marmaris (argh!
) whilst there and were glad to return to Turunc.
Loved the fact it was pedestranised at night and little traffic anyway and that it was easy to get to other places if you wanted something more upbeat.
Courses for horses I Suppose!

Hi blodwynpig;
Turunc is a nice place , but it s 1/10 of Marmaris.
Do you know ''Knidos'' in Datca?
Turunc is like Knidos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knidos

I think Istanbul29 must be having a joke blodwynpig. Knidos is a vast ancient site. 2000 years ago it would have been a bustling trading city and a center of excellence for medicine, mathematics and the arts. Today it's in ruins and nobody except the caretaker's family and lots of goats live there! Well worth a visit though and not impossible from Turunc. It's better to visit in Spring or Autumn as there is a lot of climbing to do and not much shade.
I am surprise to read so many negative replies. We visited Turunc an couple of times when we were staying in Marmaris in 2002 and found it charming. There are several restaurants and I have read in other posts that they are all good. I have one very fond memory of us having a cup of turkish tea sitting at a table and chairs that were actually stood in the sea. The beach is very narrow and the restaurant had made use of any available space by putting a couple of chairs and tables at the water edge. I have a photo somewhere I will try and post it.
You can get the water taxi to Iclemer or Marmaris and that is very pleasant or take he dolmus which is cheaper but takes about 35 minutes.
I am sure that as it 's quite a small town you would soon get to know people a lot quicker. You will find your favourite restaurant and become great friends with everyone there.
I would consider it for a holiday, you can always go on a couple of trips if you want a change of scenery.

Istanbul29 - I looked at your photo of the village at Knidos and it looks a lovely place! Never heard of it before.
mehmeh1 ;we stayed one day in Knidos only , we escaped from there. Beceuse there were 3 pansions 2 restaurants 1 phone box and 1 ancident city in there ,10 years ago
and 1 bus service in mornings only from Datca. But right , it was lovely. I guess I have a problem with small places.I was burn in istanbul. 12,5 million people live in this city.

Hi Istanbul29. I'd love to know where you stayed in Knidos. Unless you sleep on a boat there are no rooms until you get out of the ancient area. I have spent the last 15 years visiting and exploring the Datca peninsula, often for several months a year. Datça has nine villages scattered along the outline of the peninsula. These are; Cumalı, Emecik, Hızırşah, Karaköy, Kızlan, Mesudiye, Sındı, Yakaköy, Yazıköy. Most people stay in Datca where the majority of the hotels are and then some of the villages have pensions and camp sites. Yazikoy is the nearest village to Knidos but not by a beach. Mesudiye is by the sea and a little further away, there are a few pensions there and these are really small places. There is also Palamut Buku and that is also a very small place and Ova Buku which could fit your description. The original Knidos is actually in the town of Datca but the inhabitants moved down to the end of the peninsula for a better trading position sometime around 2000 years ago. It takes around an hour due to the difficult road to drive down to Knidos from Datca. My house is right next to the original Knidos but it is not well known, they call it Antique Knidos and it is quite a small area in the town of Datca. I have been to Turunc quite a few times and it's nice but it's not really like Datca which is a little working town with many farms around it and a busy harbour, the other villages are really tiny. Turunc now is getting bigger and more of a tourist resort.
You probably compared it to Turunc as It doesn't have the busy night life of somewhere like Marmaris. The picture on your link is Datca town.
