Hello,
I recently spent a week in the Costa del Sol, in Benalmadena, and I fell in love with the place. The people, the place and the lifestyle is great. My friend and I ahave 4 months off between May and September, and would love some information on some cheap accomodation (a studio) and ways to find somewhere to work. we both speak conversational spanish, and would prefer waitressing/bar work.
I think Benalmadena is a perfect Spanish resort, not too busy, but plenty of things to do. its very well priced, and the weather was great even in April!! The food was excellent, with a wide selection from fast food, to traditional spanish dishes. The people are friendly, and beaches (although some a little tatty) are clean and all you need from a beach. The hotel (Benalmadena Palace) was spotless, clean and I couldn't fault it.
I would really appreciate any advice/tips as I know alot of the people on these forums live in Spain, you lucky people!!
Thanks
Firstly, wages are VERY low. You would probably get barwork but it can pay a low as 5 euros an hour. Plus the hours are long.
A studio would cost at least 400 euros a month for the summer season (probably more). So you would need to bring some money with you. Why don't you try some of the tour operators like thomson etc.

Thanks for the reply,
I know wages are very low, but I only plan on using this money as spending money. I have bugetted for 400 euros a month on a place, and including flights, this is less than id expect to pay for a holiday anyway. I will pay the accomodation and flights from my own money. A usual package holiday would cost me around £600 wihtout spending money, with flights being around £100 from easy jet that leaes me £500 to spend on a place, with a friend.
I think its managable. Thankyou for your concern, but i think it should be acheivable?
xx

you could look on all other holiday sites for a studio for your friend and yourself,it would be enough room just for somewhere to stay at a cheaper rate than an apartment.good luck
After five years of coming to Benalmadena i've recently bought a recently refurbished studio apartment in the prime area between Costa and Arroyo, adjacent to Bonanza Square. I'm letting it through a local agency and i know they charge visitors 400 euros a WEEK in the prime months of July and August. June and September are 250, and the rest of the year 210. There is also a charge per period of occupancy of 40 euros for cleaning. So far as i know all apartments include microwave, hob, kettle, toaster, TV with uk channels, the usual bedding and towels, and use of the pool, gardens etc. Sorry if this sounds like an advert -it wasn't meant as such, i'm just trying to help stop the original message poster from making a serious mistake.
You may well get cheaper accommodation further away from the popular areas but don't go to Benalmadena budgetting for accommodation at 400 euros a month or you might end up under-funded.

Hey,
Thanks for all your comments. We managed to find a job in a restuarant for 8 euros and hour and an apartment near the marina for 550 euros for three weeks, 1 bedroom, 2 single beds but can cater for four people and all cooking stuff.
Thanks for all your adivce though : )
