Hi Gardener Jim,
I suggest you get Visas for both Kenya and Tanzania to be on the safe side. Is there not a web site where you may apply? It may be worth having a look. The High Commision or Embassy web sites should have all the necessary information. We have been to Tanzana via Nairobi and then back to Malindi in Kenya so there was no question; we definitelyneeded two visas. Surely a transit visa should be easy enough to get through your travel agent or on-line.
My citizenship is British and Canadian so I have two passports and live in Canada. We are going to be going out in June 2006. Flying in to Kilimanjaro airport and later going from Zanzibar to Narobi to fly home. But we shall be spending 1 night in Nairobi so shall have to get both visas too.
Good luck! :)
