A warm welcome, very friendly and helpful staff.
The room was clean and well appointed, Excellent shower. Food very good and an excellent choice available. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a break from the more tourist orientated areas of the Lake District. We will certainly go back.

Thought that we would give this charming hotel another try, and we were pleased that we did. This was our 6th visit and the hotel standards are back up to where they should be. The staff are very good, the rooms clean and comfortable. We are both vegetarians and the chef gave a lot of thought to our meals. The hotel is in a stunning position and is a good base for tourning the lake district. We will definatly return.

This hotel has got a great product to sell. Good food, great location and a nice rustic charm. However, our stay was blighted by the rudeness of the barman who was blatantly unhelpful despite the fact we were the only people in the bar.

You expect better service than that especially when we spent a total of nearly GBP 800 between 6 of us over two nights. The rooms were ok and a bit pricey for the size. We had loose tiles in the bathroom and it wasn't particularly clean.

Would not recommend anyone to stay here although I have to say all the other staff were very polite and helpful.

I stay on a regular basis at this hotel, whilst on business in the area.

I could not disagree more with "London girls" comments. I find the rooms clean and well appointed with sat TV, piping hot power shower and tasteful decor. I have stayed in five different rooms and all are as good as each other. Possibly slightly on the small side but as this is a characterful 17th century Inn, I find this perfectly acceptable.

Food choice is excellent. Nothing out of the freezer here! Specials change daily. Great for real ale enthusiasts and a good wine list.

Real fires and really friendly staff Refurb going on at present until Feb 06 so it should be even nicer.

This was our fifth stay at this hotel, unfortunately the standards have slipped. The room was not clean, you could write your name in the dust, bathroom also not up to standard. We had to complain when our wet towels were put back on the towel rail every day, but the manager was none to pleased with our complaint.

Breakfast was very good, but the evening meal was very poor the same vegetarian option was served every night, the staff could not understand why we did not want to eat the same thing every night. We usually eat in the lovely dining room when we stay at this hotel, the views up the valley are fantastic, however due to the chef being on holiday the dining room was not open during our stay and meals were taken in the bar area.

The hotel is on a main road and the rooms are noisy but upto this visit the hotel and staff made up for it.

I do not think that there is any excuse for a room being so dirty, it could not have been dusted in weeks.

I do not think that we will visit this hotel again
