We arrived and all looked good, the hotel was all done out in a hallowen theme. We checked in with no problems only to find that the two rooms we requested next to each other were atually on opposite sides of the hotel, no problems though one family was moved the next day only to find it infested with ants.

We reported this and it was dealt with straight away, we had been there 3 days and we could not complain about anything we thought it was fantastic.

We were then told that the RAC rally was coming to town, we got up on 22/10/05 to find all hallowen decorations gone, no evening entertainment what so ever and there were kids running riot trashing the toilets and the games room, there parents were no where to be seen. we actually caught someone sticking a spoon in the machine to get credits for the games, the hotel went from bad to worse by now it was full of arrogant French and Spanish.

At evening meals time we were made to wait while the French and Spanish just went straight in. The food had been excellent until then and then it was catering for the French and Spanish.

One French lad about 12 decided to show us how much he hated the English and stood with his parents spiting at our feet calling my husbad a W***er and my freinds daughter a Bitch, when we challenged the parents about his behaoviour we were told "no speak english" and they walked off.

The bar staff in the hotel are very rude and charged what they want when they want. we had been having cocktails of Vodka and Baileys all week and were being charged

Having read previous reports (see below) we were filled with excitment and worry.

We flew from Birmingham to Reus on a short 2 Hour flight. Cramped legroom especially with an 18 month old on our lap so I advise to pre-book the exit seats!

Reus airport is small but it is clean and we got through in a short space of time. Toilets are as you go to the collection area.

A short bus trip 10-15 mins took us through Salou to the other passengers hotels. High rise hotels next to each other with english pubs and take aways!

We arrived down a private driveway to the hotel, much to the envy of other passengers!
A large Woody Woodpecker greeets you as you enter the lobby.
The reception is large and clean staff are highly welcoming and speak very good english.
The rooms are very good, credit card swipe to get in and this acts as your meter card for the lights and air con, also your park entrance.
we asked for a quiet room which it was as it was on the lower floor looking out onto the pool. It had 2 double beds, sat t.v only watched Sky News rest is in german and spanish.
Don't bother taking any towels they are provided along with shower gel, soap, comb etc etc.

We are a family of 4, children aged 2 and 5 and we stayed in the hotel portaventura from 26th of June to 3rd July.

The hotel was spotless the staff very friendly, everyone was very helpful and the entertainment for the kids in the evening was brilliant.

The theme park is excellent but is really for the older children 5+ years.

If you goto the china area there is a big playground for the younger ages.

The shows in the different lands where fantastic (we seen 2 the far west and polynesia)both shows unbelivable.

The drinks are a bit expensive 2.55 euros for a 500ml bottle of fanta, we went into salou and paid 1.35 euro for a 2litre bottle, best to top up there first.

The food in hotel first class and we did not have to queue. The water park is excellent but outside is mainly for the older children and inside for the younger ones.

We are returning next year but to the El Paso one to see what it is like.

I would definetly return to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

ps. salou beach is over crowded and not recommended

The hotel was clean and the staff friendly.

The theme park was excellent and with the gateway through straight from the hotel grounds it meant you could pop in for an hour or go for the day and not have to worry about the cost of the taxi journey there and back.

The only thing with the theme park is that there are not many rides for toddlers. Our children are aged 2 and 5, so although there were quite a few things the 5 year old could go on, there were very few for the 2 year old.

The snack carts and ice cream carts are better priced than the cafes at the hotel, so if you are eating out for lunch you are just as well staying there. Lunch is very difficult to find at the hotel unless you want burger or nuggets. Anything deep fried is relatively easy to come by, although pricey, but healthy options, forget it. The best option is to get a taxi into Salou and stock up the mini fridge in the room.

Hot food provided on half board is again mainly deep fried and dripping in fat, both at breakfast and evening meal, not good. There are healthier options such as cold meats, salad and fruit which are fine, but the same thing for breakfast and dinner every day gets to be a bit much. That said, the children enjoyed the theme park so much, we would probably return in a couple of years, but only after trying euro Disney first!

We went for the New year and had a great time.

The hotel was good value for money and very well run.

Our only disappointment was the New Year celebrations. We were told there was a gala dinner at

Excellent holiday at a first rate hotel. Rooms (standard) were comfortable, large and well equipped. There were 3 in our group (2 adults and a 15 year old), the room had a huge king size bed and single bed which was fine for a third adult. We didn't have a balcony but there was a very comfortable window seat where I could sit in the sun and read. The pool was large, imaginatively designed and set in lovely gardens with ample sun loungers at all times of the day. The food was excellent, a wide variety and always attractively presented regardless of what time you chose to eat (restaurant is open until 10.30pm).Service was again excellent in all areas of the hotel and reception staff spoke perfect english.
Park passes include express gold service which means you can automatically access express queues for all rides after 9pm. I can't comment on entertainment as not interested in this. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

This is the second time we have stayed at Hotel Port Avenutra and the third time of visiting Salou.

We found that things have much improved from 2003 when we visited. We had upgraded to a superior room (as per 2003), but this year we had our bed turned down every night and a chocolate left on our pillow!

The complimentary items in the bathroom were great ranging from combs, to shoe polish and toothbrushes!

The minibar in the room was fully stocked and the staff were really friendly. Even the cleaners who spoke little or no English were friendly and always got a 'hello' from them. They always seemed to be cleaning something!

The location of the Hotel was great for the Theme Park and Water Park - which is what we mainly went for. The bus service to the beach was a bit touch and go, but was needed as it would have been a bit of a long walk there and back, especially when you've got towels etc and a tired 6 year old to carry!

The food was a good standard - as was last year. We had our breakfast in the Pica Pica restaurant - as we had upgraded and hot breakfasts were included, as I beleive on a standard room hot food had to be paid for extra. Character breakfasts were great - even though my son knew it was just people dressed up in costume.

Evening entertainment was a little better - 2 movies once a week. One in Spanish (with English Subtitles) and one in English. The magicians were good, but had been booked in for a couple of shows a week - however all the children seemed to enjoy it, even though they had seen it before.

Excellent holiday again this year and would recommend this hotel - especially if you enjoy Theme Parks and Water rides. We didn't even book any trips this year (last time we spent a day in Barcelona and went to Aquapolis in La Pineda a short bus trip away).

Watch out for the sun beds at the Water Park - you will have to pay!

No problems finding sunbeds around the two pools at the Hotel - as you would find that most people go into the park throughout the day/night. Having a pass to go in and out of the parks does come in handy, as when you have been water rides you sometimes need to go back and get changed!

Food in the park can be expensive - but you are on holiday don't forget! I recommend La Canteena.

Overall good value for money and an excellent holiday - we had a couple of days of rain, but it did not spoil any of our fun whatsoever. Unlike England the rain only lasts for a short while and then you find yourself in hot sunshine again.

We travelled to village park apartments, with children ages between 11 12 and 14 the actual room was good standards but the pool was small and cramped also our daughter cut her foot open on the shabby pool side where we were given a bottle of iodine and left to deal with it the entertainment is the worst effort i have ever seen and the the whole complex just accomodates families from hell, i will travel with airtours again and go to salou but will find different accomodation

Pretty damn good.

Right on the doorstep of the theme park. Very clean, good food . Would go again.. Only got a few bad points : -

1) Meal times are not great, the food is fine but dont think the service is great..... Couple of occassions we got there and there was no high chairs. We where basically told to wait !!, not good....

2) Charging things to your room, check the bill carefully. I was paying for mine and noticed someone elses signature against my room. Got the hotel manager and found around 11 receipts like this..... Obviously got an apology and sorted my bill out but left me a little annoyed.

3) No iron!!!,,, ahhhhhh

Other than the ones above this is a very nice place, good for the kids and defintely worth going again

Hotel itself.... beautifully designed. The pool areas, architecture etc make this such a nice place to stay.

Standards of rooms were very good. Generously sized with 2 double beds...tv...telephone...fridge. Plenty of wardrobe space...with hangers :0) Bathroom with bath and shower...and all the nice touches...shower gel, shampoo, comb etc :0) Hairdryer too! BUT NO KETTLE or cups so take a travel kettle if you like your morning coffee or drink during the time you are in your room. I would advise using the fridge to stock up on essentials in the supermarket in Salou. Buy tea and coffee too! No supermarket on hotel grounds :0(

Our room was on level 0 which meant that we could literally open the patio doors and walk 100 yards to hop onto a sunbed or dip our toes into the pool. Unfortunately, we had lousey weather during our weeks stay from 28th April, and so it was not possible to swim or use any of the gorgeous pool areas. This was a down side to our holiday, and one which was not helped by the lack of facilities provided by the hotel in the event of such bad weather conditions. They are obviously more focused on providing sunny weather amenities, and need to give this matter attention for holidaymakers travelling out of main season. In bad weather, due to the isolated position of the hotel, there is nothing one can do other than stay in the hotel room...bar....do the theme park in the rain etc.... It can be a problem with the children, as they can only be entertained with crayons and snakes and ladders for so long! The kids club is very expensive -
