Yes, there are hairdryers in the basic cabins, so don't go out and buy a 110 volt one like we did:-)

This was our 1st cruise and I was a little concerned that they might be just a floating butlins. How wrong I was. The Med Renaissance cruise on Destiny has totally opened my eyes to a fantastic holiday.

Everything about the ship was top class. The staff (waiters, stewards, entertainment, reception, everyone) were absolutely superb, and really made you feel welcome. Extremely friendly and helpful, and there seemed to be thousands of them.
The food was excellent, and you can eat all day and night (which has got to be good). In the seven seas it seemed as though you have a waiter each, I have never seen so many in one restaurant
The entertainment was also top drawer stuff, the shows were very enjoyable and professional, and while we were watching them we never had to go to the bar for a drink, there was always someone there to take your order just as you sipped the dregs of your last drink. Reminded me of Mr Benns shop keeper.
The ship itself was immaculate, if a seagull farted near it, someone was there with a paint brush. If a lightbulb blew, someone had changed it before the room went dark. The rooms were cleaned about every 45 seconds, although I only ever saw the steward in the corridor (how did he do that...?)

Although I have nothing to compare it too, I would totally recommend this ship to anyone, especially if it's your 1st time, as this is a great introduction to cruising, and I would definately sail on it again in the future

After reading the previous reports I was very nervous about goning on the ship, In my opnion the ship was very tierd and needed money spent on it. We had a deluxe room which was lovely and very spacious are steward Fourtune was the best we have ever had nothing was too much trouble, we had problems qith the toliet 4 times a plumber came out.
In the lido the food was served to you as you couldnt help yourself and there was always a que in my opinion this was more like a pool side bar The seven seas resturant was lovely and the staff i n there were great. The shows were excellant but on 2 occasions we couldnt get to see them as there was no room in the lounge and ques out the door, there were alot of children on board. The stops were very rushed and we didnt have a lot of time at any of the ports I also thought there was alot of movement which I have never experienced before, The waiters were so over worked by the time you had got a drink you had finished your meal in the evening you waited about 20 mins before you got a drink. I was very disappionted with the ship and wouldnt go on this again I will stick to P O as they treat you excellent and all ships are pure luxury, The dress code is mainly smart.

As first time cruisers we really enjoyed this cruise. The cabins are extremly cramped especially when three or four are sharing. Other cruisers who have been on other Thomson ships say that these are the smallest cabins they have ever experienced. However as you only use them to sleep in and get changed in, you get used to it.

The decor of the ship is a little jaded but it is quite clean considering. The staff are constantly painting and cleaning public areas. Our cabin stewardess Agniya was wonderful. She came in twice a day and managed to make the chaos of our cabin look tidy. She even made animals out of towels for the children and left chocolates on the pillow at night! Plenty of clean towels were available.

The food was very good.We were on the 1st sitting in the Seven Seas Restaurant. The Lido cafe was self service and the food was adequate if a little repetitive. It was open 24 hours a day. We had lunch there and afternoon tea. We had breakfast and dinner in the Seven Seas Restaurant. The service was excellent and the waiters were very attentive and obliging. There were lots of smallish courses with plenty of choice. There was a kids menu too. We had the all inclusive, which was well worth it!
There are lots of cocktails to try. Ice Cream and bottled water were extra.

We were so well looked after OnBoard that we wanted to bring the Filipino waiters home with us! All of the staff were so friendly and said hello as we passed. Plenty of laughter and joking!

The OnBoard Entertainment was excellent. The showteam were so professional and put on extravaganzas worthy of a West End stage. Richard Sykes is the cruise director and always informs you of whats on. There were quizzes, deck parties, discos, passenger and crew talent shows, comedians and dance spectaculars. There is a kids club in the kidszone and a teens room as well as the Internet cafe. The Chefs do demonstrations of ice and vegetable carvings around the poolside which are very clever. There is Neptunes disco, the Can Can lounge for the shows and the Oklahoma lounge where the quizzes are held and the band play.
There is a Casino if you are feeling lucky and the Clipper Bar for a drink whilst listening to a live pianist.

We would sail on the Destiny again.I understand that the Destiny will be going into dry dock in November for a refit.Rumours on board say that the Lido is going to be upgraded.

Everything was perfect. We normally only holiday once a year but we enjoyed our cruise so much that we hope to back on board the Destiny before the summer season ends.

The ship has not changed very much since being taken over by Thomsons (we sailed last year as the Sunbird).
Apparently it is going back into dry dock in october for a full refit.
Staff seamed to work very hard and always there when required. The ship was kept very clean. We for the first time only had an inside cabin on deck 3,it was adequte, enough space for two would be cramped with anymore. This was kept spotless by the cabin stewardess Agnia.
The food was available 24hrs,always a good choice at the Lido,or pizza and baguets on deck 9 fwd bar.Good quality 4* meals at the Seven seas. The drinks package was much better than on Sunbird and there was very little you needed to pay a supplement,we got ours thrown in when we booked . The cost of most drinks (when paying) Beers about £2.50 cocktails £2.95 soft drinks just over £1.00.
The ships staff were excellent,a lot friendlier than last year. Bar staff very attentive even to those on the all inclusive, they were always around to replenish your drinks even if you had,nt finished the previous one.I must mention ROGER bar service ,who new our names from day one and what our favourite tipple was.
There was plenty of entertainment right through the day and night, quizzes, game shows and dancing in the Oklahoma, and on deck 9. The Can Can lounge was the venue for the main evening shows. These varied from very good and proffesionally performed semi-broadway style shows,to induvidual comedy or speciallity acts. The Destiny showteam in my opinion were the best we have had on a cruise, great singers and dancers .Richard Sykes the new cruise director fitted in perfectly as if he,d always been a part of it.He was not just a presenter and organiser but sung danced and acted in many of the shows.Social hostess Roxy Begun, was very friendly and always had time for the guests.
The itinery Idyalic Iberia had draw backs ,many ports were visited late morning so not alot of time in ports.
Mediteranean Rens. was much better, mainly early morning dockings and late afternoon or evening sail aways.
A very friendly ship staff and paying guests.
Summary:
The ship still basically the Sunbird, but new uniform.
Staff beter than the Sunbird.
Entertainment Supurb.
Excellent food.
Great All Inclusive drinks package(even if you have to buy it,but even better if part of the booking deal).
Anybody booked for this cruise ship wont be dissappointed, unless you like paying megabucks and expecting 6* service.

we embarked on our holiday on the'Destiny' on July 28th (Idyllic Iberia). my parents accompanied us on this holiday, and as my mum has mobility problems we
were concerned that she would 'keep up' with a hectic pace - not a problem!.Our arrival in Palma was on schedule, although i feel more transportation could be provided in the airport for less able people ( i have now heard that buggies can be ordered),anyone who has been to Palma airport will know what i mean. Coaches were waiting and within half an hour we were in our cabin, with our luggage, i have to add. we have been on the Destiny before when it was operated by Airtours and knew the standard of the ship.

i think most people will agree it is pure luxury, the cabin stewardess Nicoletta along with her colleagues must be the most hard working people i have ever met, they strive to maintain cleanliness and order twice
daily, they have pleasant attitudes and will aim to carryout any reasonable request. Staff in general are polite and conscious of the fact that clients wait long and hard for their holidays and they truly looked after our every wish, although i feel members of staff were less visual than on the Emerald. (last year.

Having cruised for the past six years we were looking for different places to visit, as we are running outof itineries. We were not dissappointed in the places we visited which included Alicante, Cadiz,Lisbon, Gibralter, Valencia. We found all of the places easily accessible and only attended one excursion purely from a sight seein poing of view.
Taxis were very cheap in all places and we saw gibralter in the luxury of a taxi for the same price as the chailift.
The only point i would change was tha actual time in port was rather short, and limited where we could go or the amount we could do or see.
Food on the ship is plentiful to say the least, i 'm amazed that i have not returned 20 stone! the variety of places to eat appealed to us all, i liked the bistro as the spectacular views of the sea gave a wonderful ambience at sunset, although all facilities were excellent I cannot fault the food, service or cleanliness of any of the eateries and any one who knocks the standards must have been on a different ship or permanent alcohol induced haze or just a moaner.
The waiters are prompt, keeping tables clean and ready prepared at all times. i do ask my self how they manage to provide high standards of food in such great quantities, the chefsand waiting staff should be applauded.Drinks were not overly priced and i did not find service slow. The entertainment on board catered for all ages and all tastes, although as with any facility there was sometimes a problem with seating (we had to get into the showlonge straight after dinner to get a seat). The entertainment is provided in two shows to cater for each dinner sitting, i am amazed how the entertainment team can perform as they do, thet were truly excellent.
the only thing i can say is that the staff on the ship were not as visible as on The Emerald,(last year). This could be due to the larger size of the ship, although there were endless games, quizzes and activities throughout the week. we would definately cruise with the destiny in the future, although added itineries would be a bonus. we have chosen to cruise on the spirit to try a different ship, and have already booked. i would recommend any one trying a cruising holiday and that is coming from someone who is frightened of the sea, it is a holiday that can be as busy or quiet as you wish, as formal or in formal as you choose, and it is the easiest way to see different places in pure luxury. why not go for it!

hi, just arrived back to the uk after two weeks on board the destiny, we have never cruised before so this was a first, please bear in mind that i am very difficult to please and have been a chef working around the world in some top hotels and restaurants for the last 30 years ,,, our journey was faultless and we were on board the destiny very quickly, as soon as we arrived to the ship we were showm to our cabin and our luggage was there !!! the cabin was small for 4 but fine very clean , lets face it you dont spend much time in there anyway , everything was good, the maid did the room twice a day , with clean towels , it was spotless and she even tidied up everything, at night when you were out , you would arrive back to your cabin to find the beds had been turned down ready for you to get in, i cannot fualt the service here or politeness of the maids, the restaurants were well organised and run very effictively, the waiter service was exceptional, these people could not do enough for you , very very friendly ,our kids are fussy eaters but the staff bent over backwards to assist, it was my wifes birthday as well and the waiters even sang to her at the table , the food was excellent , well cooked and well presented in both restaurants, everything is made fresh on board ship, i had several chats with the executive chef george, and i can honestly say that they all had there fingers on the button, alert and sharp, the buffets were great, overall the service and food was very difficult to fault, in general the staff always spoke, even the guy changeing lightbulbs , superb friendly staff , a relaxed atmosphere, plenty to do on board, we saw several shows , one which was called moulin rouge , the girls performed there hearts out ,, it was fantastic , the entertainment on board was very good generally, to sum up ,, a very enjoyable holiday, i would reccommend to anyone, what ever problems they had as reported by a few people have certainly been adressed , i agree that if you were to go on the organised excersions it would become expensive, but we just picked a few that were full days , once docked we did our own thing and went ashore using the free shuttle buses to take you into town, or where that was not provided we used the local buses which were cheap and friendly , when you go on tours just take some bottled water with you , as places like rome charge about £3.00 for a 750 mil bottle, what a lot of people did was to save the empty bottles and fill them with the water from the lido cafe restaurant , which was chilled and filtered , a bit cheapskateish but hey when theres 4 of you i saved about £45.00 over the two weeks !!!! , hope you find this helpfull , if you need to know anything more email sparticus@btinternet.com we did the jewels and romans cruises , 14 days ,,, we will be booking again for next year over the next few weeks ,,,

Just got back today after spending a week on the Destiny on the Med Renaissance cruise.
Value for money is excellent on the All Inclusive option as most drinks range from £2.50 (a pint) to £3.95 (a cocktail).
The cabins are a tad small with paper thin walls but are very clean and comfortable. Cabin stewards are very hard working and always ensure you have clean bedding and towels. There are small touches too such as a chocolate left on your pillow and towels moulded into shapes of swans etc.
Wherever you go staff cannot do enough for you and are always pleasant and helpful.
Entertainment is absolutely fantastic from daytime quizzes round the pool to the top class shows performed in the Can Can lounge. You would have to pay a lot of money to see shows as good as these in the West End. We were astounded at the talent on display from every single member of the Entertainment Team .. each is 100% dedicated and enthusiastic. It really comes across that they enjoy what they do.

Now, here comes the downside... The Lido Buffet Restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Every meal/snack we tried there was cold and there was very little choice. The idea of buffet is that you serve yourself but the waiters dish out food from stainless steel containers. This give it a real soup kitchen/works canteen feel. You can't see what's in the containers through the glass frontage. At first we thought we'd just been unlucky with our 1st meal there but to give it a fair go we tried it a couple more times on other days. Again, the choice was poor and the meals were stone cold. In the end, we stuck to the safest option and just ate the cakes and fruit.

So.... we spent all our dining in the formal Seven Seas restaurant. At breakfast in here, you have a choice of either being waited on or to help yourself to the buffet. There is loads of choice, you can have as much as you like and the food is excellent.
The meals in the evening were presented a la carte style, there was always a lot of choice and the food was delicious. The waiters are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We feel, however, that they are rushed off their feet and they need more staff in here to lighten the workload. They must be frustrated working like this but never once did they show it.

In conclusion, we did have a great time and enjoyed the entertainment, atmosphere and excursions but the Lido buffet really needs to get its act together. It was the standout weak link by a mile.

We would definitely go on a Thomson cruise again but I think we would try a more established ship in the group next time.

Just got back from cruise and thought i,d have my say. i enjoyed cruise very much , food good , but Lido was a bit naff as couldn,t see what your getting from hot food section. Generally the ship was faultless . but the excursions , well thats a different story , they are a rip off and a major one at that . I paid £81.00 for my wife and son to go twenty fine mins away to Pisa for about an hour there, so very rushed , then two days later , over £60.00 for about 50 mins at a tortoise santuary in corsica , and that was meant to be a half day trip as was Pisa. So avoid them and do your own thing. Another sour point wasw day in Villefrance , we did our own thing and went to rejoin boat at 2pm , to find it had relocated , because of a reason we were never told , i,m sure we were all lied too as some many different versions were banded about , captain never once , gave any explanation , and i think that shows ingorance . it trook 5 hours to get back on boat , thats 5 hours standing in a queue
