Hi Fiona

Me and my hubby are giving Thailand a try for 3 weeks this year instead of Goa (Candolim) where we have been for the last 6 years. At the moment though we only have our flights to Bangkok booked and nothing else. We have been thinking of staying 1 or 2 nights in Bangkok (still not sure which hotel) and then maybe on to Koh Samui (Chaweng) and then Koa Tao. We love the beach and would prefer to stay somewhere that's not over commercialised (but still plenty to do) so any help on resorts would be great.

It's a shame that the Thailand forum isn't as busy as the Goa one. I know I would find all the info I need without even having to ask a question!

I would stay at least 3nights in Bangkok if it was my first visit, there is so much to see and do and as it's so hot and sticky there if you rush around trying to see everything in just one day you will be shattered.

Yes I keep seeing different reports on this. Some say 1 night in Bankgkok is enough and some say you need more. Not sure yet I think we will just book our first night into a Hotel and see take it from there.

I agree about 3 nights is enough - tho if you intend to do Chatachak market then you will need at least 1 day just for this! We were there 11 - 6pm and still only got about half way round last time! I think we did the rest of Bangkok in a day! Going back again in 3 weeks and spending 3 days in Bangkok again and 1 full day on the way home :)

Yes,we are off to Thailand next month for the first time.Even though we live in Goa i need a rest.........

Looking at 3 nights Bangkok and 3 nights Phuket, flights are sorted, but undecided which part of Phuket to go.We don't like it busy so a quiet part would be ideal any recommendations.

Naithon..very quiet resort on good beach, selection of local restaurants. everything has kind of wound down by about 9.30- 10pm. Maybe too quiet?

reading the Chatuchak Market post I remember I went there a few years ago just as Wayne Rooney went to Man U from Everton and I bought 200 Kids Man U kits, 99baht each set, at the time the baht was 68to the GBP so not much over a quid a set, all sizes (shorts and shhirt with Rooney & number) sent them back to UK, when I got home knocked them out for a tenner a set made a good bit of dough, the kits were surprizingly good quality for the money.
Needless to say I did a lot of that back then, moved on since to bigger margins.........
