Far East

Discussions regarding holidays in the Far East.
Next question:

Travelling Singapore Airlines, and on the stop over (only an hour or so), I take it we go straight from one terminal to the other and then straight to the gate? If we need to buy a drink or anything, will they accept £UK?

Will there be an opportunity to buy duty free at Singapore, or best to stock up at Heathrow and Bali?

What currency is used at Bali airport? Last year got stuck at Salvador airport with £UK an them only accepting Brazilian or $US and the money exchange was shut, so don't want a repeat of that!

Some airport (ie Goa) have a duty free shop in the baggage claim where you can buy cheap goods. Does Bali have anything like this?

Sorry for all these questions, but I promise after my return I will keep an eye on the forum and help answer as many questions as possible!!

Have you only got an hour in total between flights? If that is the case then I wouldn't rely on having time for anything. If you have longer than airport is a joy :)
On arrival in Bali there are atms- tip, work out how much you want beforehand as it is very difficult to do jetlagged. The first withdrawal I made came to £2.50 ( and yes, you can withdraw as small an amount as that :D ) There are moneychangers there but we didn't use them. Probably ok for a small amount. Remember you will have to buy a visa on arrival. They were 25 dollars when we were there- we paid in dollars. I can't remember if there was a duty free- I have a feeling there was a very small one but not really sure.

Does anyone know if Singapore Airlines sell cigarettes and alcohol on their planes? I have had a look at the website and have found lots of gifts, but not these items.

Another question. Is sun cream / after sun / aloe gel easily available and resonable priced in Bali?

I've thought of another question. Will I be able to find holiday clothing out there which will fit a standard UK female, or will I be made to feel like a whale as happens in Goa when I can't fit into any of their itty bitty clothing?

I can't say that I paid too much attention to clothes shops I'm afraid.

There are HEAPS of shops and markets for summer clothes in Bali and will fit UK standard women, although they will be their large size. There are specialised shops for the larger lady too.

Can't help with the selling of duty free on the plane. But here is the link to Changi airport I think it might answer most of your duty free questions.

However, there is no duty free on arrival at DPS airport (just emailed a friend and she confirmed it) there are money changers but don't change too much as the rate will be poor. The Visa on Arrival is in US$

Sun creams are a lot more expensive and as your staying in Nusa Dua the shopping will be limited and even more expensive than buying in say Kuta, Legian and Tuban. We always take our shampoo, sun creams and gels from home ... in fact it's already packed in our toiletry bag for May :sun2

You'll be pleased to know fags are VERY cheap in Bali. It's smoker's heaven, you can just about smoke anywhere in Bali.

Thanks Gerib :cheers
We won't have much time at Singapore, only two hours on the way out and one hour coming home, so may well buy the alcohol on the plane and buy the cigarettes in Bali and put them in the suitcase for the way home. May well work out cheaper than duty free anyway.

I wondered about the sun creams etc as I was trying to save a bit of weight. I'm one of those terrible, take this just in case, take that as you never know..... Can sometimes sail a bit close to my 20kg limit!

You sound a lot like me, starting to prepare months before. I haven't actually packed for August yet, but have started buying toiletries as I see them on offer!
