My daughter and her boyfriend are both 18 and were walking along the seafront in Can Pastilla when two ladies approached them and gave my daughter a rose (didnt ask for money). Obviously this lady was creating a diversion by doing this, as the other lady pickpocketed 100 Euros from her boyfriend's wallet. As he had just had money changed they had obviously been watching them.

Now if we had been with them we would have known what was happening, but they are very young, and obviously had never heard of this before. Stupidly although we told them to "keep their eyes open" we hadnt thought to go into details about this particular trick.
Can I just tell everyone who has teenagers with them, please make sure you inform them of all these tricks, as they can be very niave and not think of these things, especially if they have had a couple of drinks!
Obviously I know that there are good and bad people everywhere - and it could have happened anywhere in the world, not just Majorca, but forewarned is forearmed, as they say. It was a lot of money for him to lose

We reported it to the police, and they actually had "mugshots" of these two ladies, who were gypsies, and very well known to them!

Im sure your daughter and boyfriend were very distressed at what happened. Hopefully, it may make them more aware of such a scam, but what a painful way to learn.

How can they be so sure it could never happen to them? All it takes is a second to let your "guard" down. Im sure it just put a dampner on your daughter, and her boyfriends holiday. Lets hope they both remember this holiday for the RIGHT reasons.
