I'm afraid that Lagos won't tick all boxes for you as the only beach that's reasonably close to the resort centre is composed of deep, soft sand and is not what could be described as wheelchair accessible. You may have been spoiled with Vilamoura as it's a farly modern, man-made resort and, although a bit lacking in authenticity, is certaily well ahead of it's more traditional competitors in terms of accessibility.

thanks for replying sagres. yeah we realise vilamoura was excellent and very wheelchair accessible.do you have any thoughts on praia de rocha or albufeira? we were drawn towards pdr but some posters mentioned high kerbs and loads of steps down to beach although it is listed as an accessible beach. thanks again.

As I recall, PdR's beach is down steps. Albufeira has lots of beaches and it's possible that some out of town ones don't have steps. One of the central beaches has an elevator down the cliff which I imagine woud be useable by wheelchairs; try p.m.'ing member 'cubsur' who is resident in the town and will almost surely know.

Why don't you look at Eastern Algarve? Monte Gordo has loads of flat areas with many wheelchair and electric scooter users. The beach is also accessable for wheelchair users.
If you need any more info, just ask.

Praia da Rocha - the eastern end of the beach is down long flights of steps and ramps but the western end (nearest Alvor) is more or less flat.

Albufeira - the town is VERY hilly as a whole but in the old town centre there is flat access to the 'Praia dos Pescadores' near the pier. Problem is getting into and out of the old town with a wheelchair as there is very little public parking. The beaches at Olhos D'Agua and Praia da Oura have ramps so are accessible, but again the problem might be getting there as they are at the bottom of steep hills again with no public parking to all intents and purposes. You would be using a lot of taxis if mobility is a big problem.

Prainha area/Praia do Vau/Alvor/Torralta - not mentioned but much of the beach and surrounding area is flattish but certain resort hotels are a bit isolated and Alvor village itself is definitely not wheelchair friendly.

Armacao de Pera - big, wide, sandy beach and flat access to much of it. The seafront area is also flat and now mainly a pedstrian only area but some parts of town eg where some of the the resort areas are located, are a bit distant and in some cases on top of hills.

Monte Gordo - just about flat all over as said above, with a wide sandy beach. This would definitely be worth checking out.

Hope that helps.
