We sailed on the QM2 last year and you could opt out of the automatic daily tips if you wanted to. I think you could do this when you were checking in and registering your credit card details with them. I do remember though that the tips were shared out by the entire cruise staff (except the casino staff, as not everyone chooses to use this facility).

Happy cruising :)

Hi,

we sailed on Eclipse in may of this year.

On boarding we went to customer service desk and asked for the automatic tips to be removed from our account. This was done straight away.

I hate the auto tipping that most cruiselines seem to do these days and like to tip the individuals who give me good service,i.e room steward,bar/dining staff.

Last year on RCCL Splendor of the Seas we chose my time dining and to have this option you had to pre-pay your automatic tips--which we did.We also felt obliged to tip our room steward and the dining room waiters(we more or less had the same one's all week)and one of the bar staff as they were all charming and gave great service.Cost us loads of money in tips :yikes

Hope this helps.
