My personal recommendation would be Icmeler, if you scroll back through to April 22nd you will find the Discussion on Icmeler. I would also suggest you stay at Babadan Apartments, it has its own website and the wife of the owner is English. Food wise you can't go wrong, a lot of restaurants have on their menus Chinese, English, Indian, Mexican as well as Turkish, so you're spoilt for choice.

why not have a look at altinkum it,s got a lovely beach .we stayed in the horizon hotel central to everything beach 2min walk market and shops right out the front of hotel, good resturants all round about it, the hotel is basic but clean and nice . the rooms have t.v and a fridge e.mail them before you go and ask for one in the room very cheap to hire. it,s b/b continental . when you go it will be very hot 40/50 deg.

Have a look at the Bodrum Peninsular too, there are some lovely resorts there; Bitez, Turgutreis or Yalikavak may suit you. If you have a look at the top you can click on resort reports, have a read throught there. I'm not actually going to recommend any resorts because there is always someone who comes on saying it is very expensive or the beach is lousy or something and that just confuses people but if you do fancy anywhere in the Bodrum Peninsular and want to know more just ask, I used to live there for a few years so I may be able to help.

Turksih food is gorgeous! Lots of different kinds of kebabs, fish, vegetable dishes, Turkish pizza (pide or lahmacum), soups, salads and of course the lovely sweet dessertsand fresh fruit. I think self catering is great in Turkey as there is always so much choice for eating out.

I also say Icmeler, however I have never been anywhere else as Icmeler ticked all the boxes for us on our first visit in 2002 and we are going back this year for our 7th visit.

For apartments I would recommend the Moonlight Apartments in the old village, it's a 15 minute walk to the beach but they are so perfect, we now feel like part of the family.

Turunc and Akyaka are both beautiful peaceful resorts but they also have enough restaurants and bars for a 2 week holiday, and plenty of boat trips. They are also both within easy distance of Marmaris if you want shopping or a some lively nightlife during your stay.
If you book a privately owned villa or apartment you will definitely not have to fight over sunbeds, as you will have your own!
We have an apartment but not much availability left in July but have a look at http://www.holiday-in-turunc.com - our agents website, if you like the sound of Turunc.
Have a great time wherever you choose

i agree with alfie and would recommend akyaka,it has beautiful scenery, gorgeous sandy beach, laid back resort, we holiday there every year, my 9 yr old daughter loves it, cos the sea has no deep drops and is mainly calm and warm, as akyaka is fairly quiet ,we use the local hotels pool and theres never more than about 6 other people there so plenty of sun beds and thats in the height of the summer, a lot of people do stay in private apts thats why, dont get me wrong the resort isnt totally dead, and as its mainly a turkish resort the prices are very good in restaurants compared to the main big tourist resorts.

i like icmeler but it is not a peaceful resort , fairly busy infact especially if you are going in the summer hols, it does have some bars with loud music and dancing on bar tops etc, so really depends whether that will be too lively for you, its fairly scenic but i think if you want peaceful this could too much for you, akyaka has a nicer beach is more scenic but has less shops, bars etc .

have a look at these links

ive also put photos in the gallery or akyaka so have a look

Hi notnic .

We have been holidaying in turkey for several years . We have stayed in olu deniz, Icmeler and Turgetreis . Olu deniz remains our favourite . Smaller than Icmeler , very scenic and with enough bars/shops/excursions to keep you busy.

Having said that we prefer all A/I . Icmeler whilst bigger is very geared towards the self catering market with restuarants providing much of the entertaiment so this may suit you better but I have to agree we found icmeler too busy . Cant say I particularly took to Turgetreis and fairly expensive but then we didnt spend too much time in the town itself . nice market though ;) .We are trying side this year but until then Olu Deniz still wins my vote

I would recommend Yalikavak on the northern side of the Bodrum Peninsula. It still retains it's old world charm and is not commercialised. It has a beautiful harbour and centre, with lots of restaurants, offering a huge choice of food. Turkish food is delicious and much more varied than Greek food. There's plenty of simple steaks and pizzas too for the less adventurous. Choose your accommodation carefully. If you stay in the centre of the resort you can walk to the beach, shops, harbour etc. A car is not necessary as there's a great bus (dolmus) service covering the whole peninsula. If you stay up on a hillside things are more difficult. If you stay in privately owned accommodation you will probably have your own sunbeds, even when the pool is shared.
