If you fancy Turkey then try Marmaris. :sun2

Hello - yes - I am thinking about this. I went to Turkey when I was 20 - I stayed in Olu Deniz - which was a bit quiet. But Marmaris looks good.

I am very well travelled - I have been to loads of places when I was younger and really really love Spain and the Costas - just this year we want to try something different.

I will certainly look into Marmaris - is it expensive? I forgot to say - my budget for accommodation for the week is £300.

Hi David,

Have you considered the Algarve? I think the Old Town could be just what you are looking for - lovely setting, lots of good bars and restaurants, fabulous beaches, choice of 3 waterparks and, of course, plenty of supermarkets! Boat trips, jeep safaris, walking along the coast .... the list goes on. Not sure about package prices but all the budget airlines fly to Faro and you might be better doing a DIY booking. Come over to the Portugal forum and see what you think.

Wherever you go, have a great time! :cheers

my vote is for marmaris or icmeler too, your money goes further than anywhere that has the euro with it being so strong against the £, marmaris and icmeler are both lovely places

Hi

Thanks for all your recommendations. I forgot to add something to my original request. I can't stand the heat. I got burnt yesterday in the UK !

I think about 25 is my max.

What do you think now?

Thanks.

Marmaris is very hot at the moment so maybe too much for you, but i should imagine the temperatures drop by september not sure always gone in july/august.

I am wondering about this post??? Budget £300 and asking about the Med but is not keen on heat. Can you clarify just what you are looking for?

Budget is not high so limited in what you can get. Maybe a holiday which is allocated at the Airport but then you don't want the Costa'a

My vote still goes with Albufeira given your dislike for the high temps in September

Dunno about it not being so hot in Albufeira in September...
although I would recommend it for a holiday - we love it there!

We were there last year (last 2weeks of Sept) and it in the top 20's early 30's...really glorious!

I'm hoping for more of the same this year! :sun2

How about Malta? St Julians may fit the bill?

Thanks everyone - we ended up in Cyprus - Protaras - it was excellent. A little bit too hot for me at first but we just spend the days at the pool and the evenings drinking and eating. A fantastic resort - I loved it. In the end I went over my budget of £300.00 and paid £420.00.

However, my friend snores - can anyone recommend a holiday company that specialises in apartments or villas that have 2 bedrooms so that I can get a good nights sleep.

My friends go to villas every year - but they pay about £2,000.00 - and we are certainly not look at this - we will pay about £400 each.

Thanks everyone!

Protaras is lovely by the way and our hotel (Kapetanios Bay) was great too.

You will always pay a high price for accomodation with two bedrooms if there are only two of you travelling - these apartments are designed for 5-6 people (including sofa-bed in the lounge area), and the owners/travel companies will expect to receive payment equivalent to 5-6 people. Have you thought about a one-bedroomed apartment? One of you could sleep on the sofa bed in the lounge (they're actually quite comfy).

Hiya

Yes - we are going to look at a 1 bed apartment - it's just an argument as to who gets the bed and who gets the sofa.

We've done this before and it hasn't worked!

hya david, maybe you should look at a private rental ? A 2 bedded apartment will be quite a lot cheaper than a villa or a 2bedded apartment in a holiday complex, as the owners charge per apartment, not per person, check out holidayrentals, holidaylets, ownersdirect.
we have used private apartments for the last 3 holidays, saved us a fortune, just get your own flights and your away !!!!
cheers,

I agree with Juby, private rental has saved us an absolute fortune over the years. :tup
