Are there any narrow streets in Protaras? We have stayed in the Capo Bay twice, and for the last 2 visits we have hired a villa. Whilst the Capo Bay was virtually on the strip the villa we hired was just along from the Brilliant Apartments, and we had to walk down to the strip each night, and to be honest we did not come across any narrow streets. Maybe I am missing something here?

well we've just come back from protaras and still think we'll be back next year. the only "yobbish" behaviour we had to endure were a few thoughtless people in our apartments (sandra) who slammed doors and argued at 2am in the morning. as a resort it still suits us, great beaches , friendly people and the feeling that you are safe. having visited a lot of resorts over the years i have often thought that they are all basically the same anyway, bar, restaurant, leather shop, jewellers, mini market and car hire place repeated. they just place giant mirrors at each end to make a long strip

it wasnt us davetracey slamming the doors we were quiet ha ha

Returned from Protaras on 10 Oct. We visited the resort about 4 years ago, this time I felt it was more commercialised. There were no problems with drunken people, or at least we didnt come accross any. I thought it was quite busy, (I notice other members feel it was much quieter.) and prices were a bit steep, but possiblely that is because I will not drink the local spirits. We had a pleasant holiday and chilled out as we planned, but I dont think we would return to Protaras again,we may try Paphos in the future, but I can feel Greece calling me back :D

dont getme wrong people i love cyprus to bits ! weve been going there for 10 years now but we have found out for the last 3 or so years that Protaras has been coming over comcerialised the prices for everything are going up - not by a great amount but it adds up at the end of the day ! and you would go to Protaras in August 4 years ago & you could get in a resturant within 2 seconds there would be plenty of tables now you have to wait for any resturant / bar ectt to get a table put out for you or wait till ones free , does anyone feel the exact same about this?
thanks

We were there in late September and found the strip still very busy for anyone wanting a meal between 7-00 -9.00pm and the thought of queuing was quite off putting some evenings(whats it like in July/ August?? you wonder)? In the end we ended up making full use of the rented car by using Tavernas a little more off the beaten track but did find one local restaurant called 'Rocks' which is situated on the main road that goes through Protaras on more than one occasion and the food was excellent.

We are off to protaras for a wedding in september and staying at the Sandra Apartments but am a bit miffed after reading that one has to pay for the air conditioning, is the charge a universal one or does it depend on who you book with.. i read that it cost 40 CYP for air condition and safety deposit box.. that seems to me to be a complete rip off.. i wouldnt say these apartments are cheap to stay at as we are paying 450 squidleys each and one can get tenerife, bulgaria etc a lot cheaper...

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if one gets part of their money back for the hire of safety deposit box and air conditioning.. really am a bit miffed at these charges.

if only me niece was getting married in Amsterdam ;)

cheers peeps

Yes you can, you can also holiday in a caravan at the end of the drive if you like but you would be in a different place to Cyprus ! As a mate of mine was always saying "you pays yer money, you takes yer choice". I could jump on a last minute deal to costa del ? for £99 but I'd prefer to pay the money and go to Cyprus knowing there will be good people, decent food, great beers, fantastic scenery and not as much likelyhood of lager louts, robberies, fighting, foul mouthed morons and as much bacon and egg like you get back home places.. etc etc...

hi manicveq, having just got back from the sandra last week hopefully i can answer some of your questions.
we went with thomson and there was no charge for the air conditioning , whether this is different with other companies i don't know, all thomson customers (as far as i know) are also housed in the main block.
the safe deposit box costs £25cyp for two weeks with 5cyp refunded on return of key.
the sandra is a comfortable, friendly ideally located place to stay,
have a great time :D
feel free if you need to know anything else

Hello

Yes we got 10 cyprus pounds back off the aircon and safe

We went with Argo Holidays - our hol only cost us £275 each person so I think they have to make their money somewhere else

Any questions feel free

yo dave n joanne

and wow you got a result with the price JO and yes we iz going with thomson too dave so should be okay and if they do charge us i will ask them why they never charged you, so apologies in advance if you recieve a invoice for air conditioning

have been to cyprus before and to be honest was bored LOL maybe its pathos in January??

but this is self catering and the choice is mine?? so how much is a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs, potatoes etc, do the shops take visa and is it "chip n pin"? how much is a bottle of wine and 50g of golden virgina and whilst i am here with me loads of questions might as well ask whats the current price of a litre of voddy?

thanks for the replies peeps appreciate it so I do.

i always hear peeps letting of a bit steam, usually a few beers too many, but they are usually fine the next day and perhaps feeling a tad embarrassed

great news on the apartments, sound nice and central and clean.. may wind the barman up saying i was there last year.. make out i am really pleased to see them again

currency is the euro next year and as with everywhere prices will go up somewhat so a pint of keo is ?? and a double voddy with orange juice costs ???
