Any advice on the most cost effective method of transfering large amounts of money from my irish bank to my spanish bank,the spanish bank's advice was to use iban,after using this method to transfer 36000 euros my irish bank charged 25 euros and my spanish bank charged 144 euros Any advice would be appreciated

Hi, if you are in s. Ireland (euros) just pay/post a cheque to your Spanish bank, I have an account in france and it costs hardly anything. Thats the good point about the euro.
