I'd recommend the CONRAD. I've been there twice, my Mum three times and we absolutely love it!

It has the best beach of any hotel in Sharm, snorkelling is amazing and the staff are very welcoming.

another possible I can recommend is the hilton at sharks bay A/I. Been there twice . Beach not great but fabulous house reef , very friendly staff and by Egyptian standards the food is pretty good .
Basically sharm makes up a very long coastline . you have 2 choices really .

A) is to base yourself in Naama Bay which is where most of the resturants,bars , shops and nightlife is .the hotels there are mostly B+B or half board . the sonesta/sonesta beach is one of the few A/Is there .

b) you stay at one of the numerous A/Is alongside that stretch of coastline but there is little beyond the hotels gates except for desert. cabs are easy and cheap to get you to Naama Bay and most hotels will provide a shuttle bus.
The exception would be to stay in the Ras um sid area which is close to the more traditonal old sharm town . there are a couple of hotels that are possibly within walking distance but how pleasant that walk would be Im not sure.
