I find it strange that most of the acts are from UK with a few 'token' Indian artists.

Who are these UK acts anyway. Carl Cox.... well past his sell by date!

Pandering to the UK tourists as usual, what about some good representation of Indian acts. And why is this at Candolim of all places?

Carl Cox is a legend Neil  as was said in the previous posts about this, seems like the Goan officials are shooting themselves in the foot once again, get rid of the trance loving drug taking skint hippies and replace them with the Ibiza loving drug taking but a lot richer clubbers YAY :? our new found rich friends from that really cold large place wil have it sown up for cheap drugs in no time.

Anjuna doesn`t really have the beach for it but Vagator`s Disco Valley would be a good place, anywhere but Candolim. I would love to have gone myself but I think a lot more consideraton and a lot more planning would have made it a lot better.

Carl Cox is maybe a legend but there is a wealth of Indian crossover artists from Mumbai that are not just DJ's. Combining beats with real live performance. I'm always on the look out for LIVE music in Goa and have hardly come across anything by Indian artists (not Karaoke or bad Goan covers bands). Wish I'd caught Prem Joshua last year(yes I know he is German).

Apart from the very occasional Tabla/Sitar duo at Ingo who do a short set, it's REALLY difficult catching some REAL Indian music or fusion. You hear so much on CD as well.

I have a fairly broad taste in music but bangin' DJs do my head in, not only are the overpaid, they do not make for captivating viewing. DJs are people who present music, yes they have a job to do but let's not think of it as performance art.

Yes consideration and planning again has not been thought about. It's Goan dual standards, get rid of the raves and replace it with corporate sponsorship... that makes it OK with the police and locals.

The Big Chill sounded good last year.

I have to say that I feel sorry for those who have booked to go at that time and who will have to trail elsewhere for some beach time. I have a feeling there will be a lot of unhappy holidaymakers.

:( I knew about this but thought it was Anjuna/Arpora way. Looks like it's right by where I'm staying, bloody great (not)- no sleep for me for a couple of days then!

The Big Chill would be a great asset for Goan tourism not only for its ambience but also its location and the truly national and international flavour it portrays.
As a banging DJ myself  not everyones cup of tea I know but we do our best to entertain a crowd in whatever musical way we can otherwise you may as well just play a compilation cd and do away with us. The rave days are what brought me to Goa in 1999 for the millenium, and I was lucky enough to play at the Hilltop too which was something very special to me. There were lots of Indian Dj`s as well as Israeli, Swedish and English Dj`s then, but most of these have moved on to Northern India, Nepal ans a lot of the Indian guys moved to Dubai once they were driven out of Goa so that could explain why a few are missing as they have no desire to play commercialised music and practice there trade in Goan trance in other countries.

There is a restaurant in Vagator I used to visit and every time I went in he would bring out his entire Zakir Hussain Tabla collection out and get me to choose one to listen to while I had my meal, his face lit up when he saw how much I appreciated his music collection. I understand when you say it would be nice to hear something a little more authentic while in Goa, surely there must be some Konkani music that is popular ?

As with the guy in the restaurant it shows that music is a great uniter of people from all backgrounds, if worked out right and in the right place, right time.

Zakkir Hussein, Anoushka Shankar, Karsha Kale, Tabla Beat Science .... any Karnatic Classical, Hariprasad Churasia etc... seeing any of these musicians in Goa would be the ultimate experience...... no mind altering substances required.

I agree feelthevibe. Although a rock chic i like most music but feel sometimes that not enough thought has been put into things. The prices they are charging are extortionate! and I hope they've thought about they the people will stay/go etc etc etc. I of course would be very pleased if Jon Bon Jovi was to play on Candolim beach and he could stop at mine!!!

Hi everyone

Candolim!!!!!!!! has anyone thought this concert through, they won't allow loud or late music in the bars, so you can be sure the police will be there in force to close it down then everybody will be out of pocket, why oh why did they not choose Vagator they would not have had to worry about the noise there, hey ho!! it could be another chance for Plod to make a little more cash mmmmmm!!!.

I just hope the tourists don't get conned and ripped off on this one because it has all the ingredients for disaster, save your money.

Mike ( only my opinion I have not heard anything here on the street )

Hi Mike
Do you know just how far up from Monicas place are they holding this event?
It maybe a false economy buying tickets, the music will be just as available in the shack next door, and next to that, and so on all for free.

Hi Gaz,

You never know who you are talking to on this site unless they use their real names. Glad to here you are coming back, see you around Xmas, now here is a shock we will not be having Xmas dinner at Monica's because we have some people coming to stay with us and they are taking us to the palm tree in Calangute to meet some of their friends, I would rather be at Monica's it will be the first Xmas dinner we have missed there for eight years. I hope you got your visa's ok.

It's a shame that the famous Goan musician Remo Fernandes, is not taking part. I have just heard some of his music on you tube , and am going to look out for some of his cd's in Goa. I hope I can find Goan Crazy and Old Goan Gold with the Konkani songs.
I think he was at the Big Chill but I'm never in Goa when that's on.

Did this happen, what time did the music get turned off?
