Great really glad you had a great time.

You proberbly did not experiance a lot of what other people did, regarding toilets in there own cabin, it was a mater of what will the toilet do today, will i have any running water??
As i said before on arrival my room carpet was soaking, was your???
They were drying it, so for 3 days i had a wet carpet, smelly room. one night the extractor fan decided to suddenly start to work, but then would'nt stop.
Draws would'nt open, stained furniture. Did you have any of these, if not then great you and Lee got of very very lightly.

I also asked if i could get of but was not allowed, i didnt have the funds to pay for a hotel as my holiday cost £3199 + spending money £450 + £900 for excursions Just to get of the ship.
I resent you saying that you could spot me a mile away, you dont no me, you dont no who iam or who i represent as a person.
I was not at the worst of it, i got of very lightly aswell compared to some people, there cabin toilets and showers were not working the first week so they were to told to go down a floor and use the public untill it was sorted it took 3 days and on complaining about walking across ship at night they were given a bathrobe.
to many people complaining and i stand my ground 1000's yopu were just a luky one.

Well....ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

After reading numerous reviews on both this site, and several other cruise sites, I was worried enough to contact Thomson.

They did try the 'we are aware of some problems but we are led to beleive they have been resolved' approach.

I asked could I swap my cruise to another ship and the answer was YES but with conditions. (£50 admin fee per person, holiday must be taken within a week of original departure.)

So we are now booked on the Destiny 26th June......cost us an extra £200....so that is either money well spent ( if the worst reviews are to be beleived) or a waste of hard earned cash if the best reviews are to be believed........

:que Who knows which camp I would have fallen in? As we were booked on deck 5, possibly the stinky camp LOL......but just wanted to let you know, if you HAVE booked and all this is causing you concern.....you DO have an option........ :D

I think I'd have done the same as you,my brother seems to have been one of the lucky ones.It could have gone either way for you,a huge chance to take when you're spending your hard earned cash.Hope you have a fantastic time,T.

Not you personally, I wouldn't be so rude to say that, but you must have seen certain people going round trying to stir trouble and telling people to complain, even if they were perfectly happy. All I am saying is that everyone is running this ship down and I'm just trying to say that the comments I've read are NOT the ship that I have just cruised on. Was there any need to get the BBC involved? We even got a letter from the MD of Thompsons and the Captain also advised us over the tannoy how to complain if we wanted to. I believe there was even a meeting held (I didn't attend) so people could air their views, so in my opnion and what I saw of the many crew men trying to fix the situation, they were doing as much as humanly possible.

Sorry if you thought I was personally attacking you, I wasn't. But like you, I still stand by my view in that there was not 1000's complaining, it was a small minority.

As I said I returned from Med on Tuesday 1 June 2010............ There were people with problems and some with serious problems, however I was not one of them.... I am aware some people did have serious problems but I did not see masses of people descending on customer service............ I did not see people walking about with robes on............. but if the problems were contained to certain areas of the ship then I would not see these things............ but if there were thousands of people complaining I am sure I would have noticed that............. People who had problems probably feel seriously let down (especially if they cruise with Thomsons before) and have something to compare this cruise with. Thats a shame their holiday was spoilt. I and many others had a good holiday............

1000's complaining in total, meaning not just on the ship but off the ship, were you there at 9.30 on tues 1st when they were queing to get a photo copy of there complaint, that que went down to the toilets, and the night before.
During the first week we were asked not to go to customer service for complaint as they were very busy at that time.

The first week was far worst than the 2nd week, and i agree the guys were working 24/7 to sort any problems out, but the problems have been going on since day 1 of cruiseing in April, therfor i think they should have shut ship until all problems were sorted.
Two people i spoke with had flys coming out of the toilet, one lady was bitten all over her body not sure by what but she said she was taking a sample of the flys back to the uk to get checked out.
The couples with bathrobes, you would'nt have really seen them as they only left the cabin in them in the middle of the night, during the day they wore there normal clothes.

I was on deck 5, deck 6 was the strongest smelling deck.

I picked the thomson dream because it said 5* luxury new ship, (i have the broucher in front of me) to celebrate my 40th and my 20th wedding aniversary, i wanted something special, but i feel i did not get that.

The Food on the other hand was fabulas, entertainment was out of this world, and some staff was great.

If thomsons had done the revamp in feb/march then i am positive that this would have been my dream holiday, i will try Cruising again. But until this is done i will stay away from Thomson Dream.

Why on earth do people pay the full price asked by cruise companies? Do your homework and watch how prices come down as the cruise date approaches. Regarding the Dream, I do have some sympathy for Thomsons in that they believed that they were taking over a fully functioning ship which would have been cruising with Costa line right up to the time of takeover by Thomsons. Unfortunately there was the collision and the ship was towed from Egypt to Italy for repair. I do believe that Thomson should have offered the early cruises at cost price whilst they evaluated the ships performance and trained the crew.

I do agree with you there, on cost.
i normally book my own holidays trying to get the best at a very good price, but because i had never booked a cruise before i left it to my travel agent, now i no what the crack is i will book my own from now on.

As for the ship i do also agree with you there, i have done my homework and realized why the revamp had not taken place in march, and yes they should have given us at cost or let us have the option as to continue with the cruise or make an alternative date.

One day it will be a good ship, i have been recommended the Thomson destiny any comments?????????

Am thinking of going on the Dream in January. Having read the reports I am a little concerned regarding toilets etc. Anyone know if they are definately having a refurb in October?

The Destiny is OK. It is run and crewed by the Greek owner company. The crew is more international including East European and Arab and is very, very hard worked to my mind. It does have a Thomson entertainments team. It is not such a happy ship as say the Celebration but I certainly would cruise on it again. Regarding the Dream as already said Thomson said it was due for major refit in October and I'm sure all the problems will have been ironed out before it travels to the Caribbean otherwise they might as well sink it. I just hope the oil slicks have disappeared before then. If you're going as a couple and you prefer smaller ships, Fred Olsen's Braemar is definitely worth considering. Again surf the net to get the best deals. Thomsons own website gives the best deals for their fleet and they do fluctuate!!! :)

I was leaving the ship at 8.40 am on Tuesday 1 June...... visited customer services twice before disembarking...... cause the owed me 2 pounds. No queues...... they must have started after I left. I am not disagreeing people had problems because that would be nonsense.... However thousands.... the ship only carries 1500 passengers

Hello, I just typed Thomson Dream into Google so that I could have a look at some pictures of the ship on my first day back to work after my holiday, and i saw this link-I felt I needed to post my opinion as most posts seem to contain negative experiences and I wanted to show that many people really enjoyed the cruise.

We were also on our honeymoon and did the Med Explorer cruise from May 18th for one week.

Our experience was fantastic! We had the best honeymoon we could have ever wished for, and the ship surpassed our expectations. We were on Deck 5 and the only issue we had was that the toilet didnt flush for one hour late one evening. This was rectified promptly and we had no further problems. I am not sure why people are referring to it as the smelly deck? It certainly wasn't smelly where we were! Ocassionally there was an unplesant smell on Deck 9-in the cabin corridors, but this was occassional and didn't last for long. Our cabin was lovely, our cabin steward was incredibly polite and thourough, our cabin was always clean and the beds turned down every night (ocassionally with a little creature made from our towels left on the bed-very sweet!) The restaurants and bars were great. The two buffet restaurants offerred a tremendous range and variety of foods, everything was clean and kept nice and there were hand sanitation dispensers at the entrance and exit of each. The waiters were very polite and worked jolly hard to ensure that you always had tea/coffee when you wanted it (any time of day) or water (any time of day). The Orion reaturant was marvellous! It made the cruise extra special, the food was super and the staff were excellent.
Overall the ship was clean and kept very well with people constantly cleaning and tidying. The house band and entertainment team were wonderful, and the excursions available were brilliant! We wouldn't hesitate in booking to travel on this ship again.

Just returned from Thomson Dream Hell, 18/05 - 1/6/2010 yes we had 2 weeks endurance test every bad review (they are all bad) that I have read is true, we were the passengers with the flooding toilets, (other peoples!) worst smell ever, wet carpets etc we were on deck 5 which was bad but beware the further up you go the worse the smell gets. Forget the flip-flops take wellies and a rain coat the sewage is coming up through the floor and down from the ceilings.

The drinks package has improved I think they are trying to get people drunk so they will forget all the problems on the ship. On our 2nd week there was at last mutiny on the ship. A large meeting was called and around 300+ passengers registered with a spokesperson (fellow passenger) who is fighting on behalf of others she aslo carried out a radio interview and it will be on Sky news and watchdog so look out. During our stay we recived an appology from the captian regarding the smell although he said it was harmless!!! I dont think excrement is harmless? a hotel would be shut down. The 2nd letter recommended that on our return we contact Thomson individually and each case will be investigated for compensation. The mutiny scared them!

Advise if you have booked on this ship CANCEL! I have been on Thomson Spirit and Thomson Celebration 4 times and they are excellent this is like a totally different company Butlins comes to mind sorry Butlins you are cleaner, and very tacky, GET RID of the entertainment team!!!! Keep the showteam.

Re: Planned Refurbishment

Just noticed someone is thinking of booking on the Thomson Dream in January, i spoke to quite a few members of staff regarding the planned refurbishment in dry dock October including the Revenue Manger and they are only planning on the pipe works and plumbing no plans for an overall refit which means smelly carpets will stay! Old pictures of Costa Europa and all the old broken wardrobes and cupboard doors in cabins will stay you know what my advise would be....look elsewhere!

Hi Ree really glad you had a great time.

But you are just about the only one.

The first week i was there 18th may this was the worst week for smell ????

It was that bad that some young girls on there was gipping at one point, and it wasnt the drink, they seemed very sober when i was talking to them.

This ship really does need scrapping.

Hi Leesa

Not sure if you read the correct post I believe the ship should be taken off the water and have a complete overall. People who have already been on the ship should get a refund, including yourself. May I suggest that you contact Thomson and put it in writing regarding your issues, if enough people complain they may be forced to refurbish and repair. I feel very sorry for those who are about to travel on it.

Thomson Update from Sunday 6th

Thank you for your email regarding your forthcoming cruise. We can confirm the Thomson Dream has experienced some plumbing issues on board in some areas which have affected a small number of passengers which is where the reviews you have seen are generated from. However the reviews on these forums have been over exaggerating the nature of the problems on board.
We have received a new update today and we can confirm that the technical fault on board which was causing the unpleasant smell in some areas has been corrected and the smell has is no longer affecting passengers. With regards to the plumbing issues in some cabins these are being repaired by our dedicated plumbing maintenance team and these particular cabins will not be occupied by our customers.
The Thomson dream will carry the Thomson quality stamp just as all our other ships in the Thomson fleet and we can reassure our customers that these issues have been largely resolved.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for booking with Thomson Cruises and If you have any further queries or need any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us on 0871 231 4908 to speak to one of our cruise specialists who will be happy to help.
