Turgetreis is well spread out, It does not have much of a beach again that's well spread out also, I found that their wasent much to do or see in Turgetreis and 1 week was enough for me, You do get some fantastic views of some Islands in Greece however, I also found that it was much more expensive than anywhere else I have been to.

we have recently returned from turgutreis and have also been to olu a few times. turgutreis is not as scenic as olu deniz, the beach is shingly with stones and rocks in the sea so you need to wear beach sandals or its fairly painful getting in the sea. we liked turgutreis but found this area of turkey fairly expensive, although we didnt eat out we priced the food, and english breakfasts were around 12 lira which i thought was dear, im glad we went there as i like to see lots of different areas to turkey but i doubt we would return there again. bodrum airport isnt great either lack of seats was a nightmare with a delayed night flight at 4am with a tired child in tow. we stayed at the aegean dream all inc which was ok ish, my mother came and visited us and they stayed at the waterville and said it was lovely, right on sea front and 5 mins walk into turgutreis and good price, here is a link

why dont you try akyaka its gorgeous , lovely sandy beach mins walk from most hotels, bars and restuarants, fab riverside with restaurants, reasonably priced as its not too touristy, fairly quiet but not dead, laid back holiday with fab scenery very hard to beat so we are going there again next mth.ive put some photos in the gallery so have a look & have a look at akyaka links too

Have been hearing about Akyaka and it does sound more like the sort of thing we like, laid back, nice scenery and the opportunity to go do things if you want to.

also if you want a day out in marmaris or icmeler for shopping etc its only 20 miles away, good luck where ever you decide to go

Well it appears that choice is something that is lacking for flights and hotels. We have found a deal in Turunc at Cavala hotel, what is Turunc like and has anyone stayed at that particular hotel?

Can't give you any information about the hotel but we are going to Turunc three weeks today for the 4th year in a row. We love the place. it is nice and relaxing, no loud themed pubs which I can't stand, pleanty of restaurant choice, (ie you can go to a different one everynight and still have pleanty left over at the end of a fortnight. The scenery is stunning, lots of trips to do and if you really want something livelier (which I never have) you can get to Icmeler or Marmaris by dolmus or water taxi. Transfers can easily be arranged to the village which saves time. We always use JM Travel in the village which is run by an English lady June and her husband Murat. We also do our trips with them and also use their extensive collection of books to swap our books when we have finished reading. The kids like it as they can wander around in the evening safetly as the road is closed off in the evening and pedestrians are free to wander. There are shops to buy the usual fake goods and also jewellry stores. They are not allowed to harass you to get you into their restaurants which is an absolute blessing having experianced that in Hisoranu (Never want to go back there again) We always stay in a self catering apartment. Prefer the freedom of this. We are using the Burak Apartments for the second year running. They were recommended to me by someone on this site. Rose Apartments also look nice but I don't think you will have a problem anywherein the village. Anymore info please just ask. Have a great holiday. ESM :sun2

gannet you would need to do a diy to akyaka or go with anatolian sky for a package.
ive also been to turunc, its a nice place but again scenery not as gorgeous as akyaka, so really depends what you want out of a holiday, if you want a nice beach and fab scenery then akyaka beats turunc , but turunc is nearer to icmeler than akyaka and probably slightly busier.

my friends are staying here next mth, i dont know the owners but went along to make sure the apts were nice before they booked and they did look nice

We love to have easy access to a nice beach, easy transport to surrounding areas to get up an go places and a relatively laid back area. Kas was a lovely place but no beach nearby.

If you loved Kas you will love Cirali...sounds exactly the place you are looking for..great 4km beach, relaxed and laid back...1.5 hrs from the antalya airport...so another alternative and possibility

check out my photos :=)

Thanks for all the responses, the problem we have at the minute is finding a hotel in the first two weeks of September and flights to match, there really is a lack of choice without having to pay appreciably more than we would normally. Is Akyaka not plagued by mosquitoes with all the wetlands and woods?

Cirali - not looked into that yet, will have to go research things

ive been going to akyaka for a few years now and at different times of the year and havent seen or been bothered by many mozzies. i do put mozzie spray on every night and that does the trick but i put it on every time im in turkey anyway and havent seen any more there any all the other places ive stayed in and in over 25 years of visiting turkey up to 5 times a yr thats a lot of times ive visited. i can see that if you are on a budget it might cost more as there isnt many packages to akyaka but this also keeps the riff raff out so im happy with that, no loud lager louts there lol

Agree with all comments about Akyaka and Turunc.
Akyaka is undoubtedly best for the beach, but we think Turunc is better in the evenings, as it is more compact, with a bigger choice of restaurants and bars, and having the main street pedestrianised at night gives it a lovely atmosphere.
Plenty to do around both these resorts as well, either on your own or as organised trips. Both are within easy reach of Marmaris - if you're quite adventurous you can get longer distance buses from here to several other places.

After a lot of hunting around trying to get decent flights and then match the dates to hotels and finding the hotels have bad write ups and so on, we have now booked Turunc 7th - 21st September. Will give us a chance to explore the area and find other places in anticipation of booking earlier next year to obtain a decent choice.

There are a lot of areas that we can rule out due to size and reputation but there are lot of places mentioned here worth looking into for next year. Thanks for all the suggestions and links.
