The management of the Portobello overbooked the place and on arrival at Dalaman airport we were told that we could not stay there now. Cosmos fully blame the Manager of the Portobello. Cosmos also said the block of rooms they were allocated were really poor and their 'monthly' inspection showed they were sub standard. So what did they find on their 'previous monthly inspection' then?? (same rooms)

We were really looking forward to the full facilities provided here and the water slides - we just never got there.

We have stayed at the Portobello in previous years. We love it there, before we booked with Thompson, which was good. This year we booked with First Choise. Bad Idea.

We stayed in F block. Not very clean, not alot of attention paid to the rooms when being cleaned as we did not get clean towels unless we asked for them.

Beside the pool is very slippery, I saw a number of people fall and have to get taken to the hospital, myself included. My hospital fees came to

We booked the portobello 18 months in advance, we chose it because we wanted a lively hotel with lots to do, and near to marmaris town center as we had 6 teenagers in our party.

In the months coming up to our Holiday I started reading this site as well as others and became concerned about the reports about the cosmos allocation of rooms.

I telephoned cosmos,and expressed my concerns, I was told that the rooms would be up to standard, as they would never send people to an apartment or hotel which wasn't up to standard. I asked to change hotel, I was told no, I asked to cancel the Holiday, I was told I would lose most of my money.

We decided that we would just go, after all the rooms cant be that bad can they? and after all we were in maramaris where we wanted to be, and the rooms were only for sleeping in.

We arrived at Dalaman airport, and were told that portobello had over booked and we had been moved. I asked the rep if we were still in Marmaris, he said yes, after a night flight, we were all tired and not in the mood to argue.

The rep also told us we had been upgraded to a 4*. We arrived at the Fabar apartments, which is not in Marmaris, it is in Icmeler, (a 15 minute drive from Marmaris) The apartments, which were nice, were in no way a 4*.

We were gob smacked, there was only one small pool, as opposed to the 5 we had booked in the Portobello, and no daytime or night time activities or entertainment. The rep arrived the next day with promises of a shuttle bus to take us to Marmaris at our complete disposal, day or night.

And told us if the shuttle was unavailable, the rep himself would come and take us to marmaris in his car. He said anything he could do to make our holiday a happy one, he would.

We never saw him again until our departure day, two weeks later. The rep also told us, we were moved due to sub-standard rooms in the portobello.(The exact concerns I expressed to cosmos before we even left England)

A row ensued with hotel reception about the times of the shuttle bus, we were promised the shuttle home at 2am which the hotel posted on a board then later retracted and made it 12 midnight.

Hence when wanting to stay out later, we had to pay for two cabs, at a cost of 60 YTL over ten nights spent in marmaris costing us 600ytl.

All in all I think Cosmos have acted appallingly,before during and after our Holiday, we booked a lively hotel, in a lively resort, we got a small romantic hotel (as described on its website) on the outskirts of a small town.

Arrived in the early hours Friday morning went to reception they could not find our key, so gave us a key for A block, top floor, got in the room sofa bed had not been made up looked liked a room for 2 people complained so they gave us F block top floor again but was better than previous room.

It was ok not much room, could not see over balcony unless you stood on a chair.

Sunday night/Monday morning 2.30 the fire alarms going off, guests were standing in the corridors hanging over the balconies seeing what was happening, fire fire everybody out it was manic people scrambling down the stairs, black smoke coming from the basement we had to run pass the basement to get out. No one knew what was happening they never did a head count .

After a couple of hours we were told we could go back to our rooms a guard escorting us but left in room with no electric or air con. We all refused and spent the night on sunbeds around the pool. They said we could have a breakfast that morning which turned out to be the turkish buffet breakfast which was disgusting. Everybody spent the whole day with the rep Michelle filling out complaint forms.

We got moved to J block, top floor again but bigger rooms and better fire escapes would never go back to Portobello again .

Apartments were adequate enough but the bedsheets were stained and were never changed. We never received clean towels despite being there for seven days. Pool area is very slippy and I had several embarrassing incidents which saw me ending up on my bum! Food at the bar isn't great but it does improve in the evening. The staff at the bar and the pool area are very irritating and are either constantly throwing icecubes at you or pestering you to buy sprite or ice-cream! (and they don't take no for an answer!)
I wouldn't go back to Portobello because it wasn't really suitable for couples, its more family orientated. The worst part of the holiday is Dalaman airport, Marmaris is not worth the nightmare that is that airport! You have to queue to get into the airport alone never mind the check in queues and the very stringent security measures!! Be warned

We travelled to Portobello apartments in August/September this year and had a fantastic time. The rooms were everything you need on holiday basic but very clean.

The apartments were situated beside everything and they had really good entertainment at night to cater for everyone.

As we went self catering we never stayed at the apartments to eat we always went out. The staff really helpful and really friendly and we had alot of good laughs with them.

When I visit Marmaris again next year I would definately stay at Portobello apartments again.

We booked 9 hours after visiting Portobello last year as we had a brilliant holiday. Couple of other families booked to go at the same time which we met last year. 5 days before we were due to depart we had a call from the travel agent to say we were unable to stay at Portobello for health and saftey reasons, Cosmos would not tell us what the problem was, we are aware of what the problem was but we also are aware that Cosmos pulled out 5 weeks prior to our travel date. We were relocated to Blue Bays which is 5 min walk away and upgraded to a 4* hotel - yes the hotel may be 4* but the apartments were no where near 4*. we were gutted when we saw where we had to stay due to what we knew where we were going to from last year, we stayed in block K last year.

We went to the Portobello every day to meet the other family and we had a brilliant time, i can not fault Portobello at all, you could not get more friendly staff, excellent facilities for children, yes the pool side could be made safer as it is very slippy. I have two very active boys and they took part in the activities organised during the day and not once did they seem that they were not enjoying themselves. My 14 year old daughter also joined in and made loads of friends.

We would definately recommend the hotel for anyone who wishes to stay in Marmaris as it has all facilities for children to keep them occupied and central to most of the bars restuarants and beach.

If i go back to Turkey and we will as a family i know i will be going to stay at Portobello and would not except any other accommodation.

The apartments are great, if you have not booked with First Choice!

Their block is not shown in brochure as it is like prisoner from cell block H. They are hidden in the back of the complex and we were told they were due to be pulled down as they are so inadequate.

The complex was nice but the sunbeds went early. Wouldn't recomend eating in the complex.The entertainment was pretty good but take a spare CD as they only play 1 and after 2 weeks it gets a bit gutting.

Plenty to do but expect hassle as you are constantly being hounded to either eat or buy. The service is very slow at the hotel, (and a lot of places outside) Best eating place Alexandra's, bit more expensive but worth it.

Nice holiday, nice complex, but First choice disgraceful by not showing true picture of their apartments. Must say the reps were excellent, if not very embarrassed, spent most of time trying to change peoples rooms.

We had a brill time the accoommodation was great. I looked up the reviews on Holidaytruths and was really worried when I read some of them. I think a lot of ones made the hotel out a lot worse than it is.

The cleanliness was brilliant. Mmaids in every day and tresh towels. It is true though you get 1 toilet roll supplied why not pack a couple or get more there as they not expensive.

Hotel staff are really friendly the pools are clean. Entertainment was also very good the breakdancers were brill.we would definately go back to this hotel again. They also have a 24 hour bar. This was my first time in Turkey I found everyone very friendly and helpful.

I recommend a resturant called Reina which is out the back gate heading to the next main road on right hand side and Nostaji for 24 hour food happy faces.
