Superb week on board the Dream
10 years 3 months ago
Could not fault the week spent cruising the Med in July 2014. First experience but cannot wait to to choose another itinerary. Crew worked so hard in all areas and could not do enough for you. Entertainment, foods, cabin, trips all perfect.
Plenty to do on board for all ages. Check in very easy on arrival and everything explained. Orion Restaurant to be recommended for your evening meal.
Soon got to know each deck and what is available on each one very quickly.

The Dream Caribbean Cruise 2014
10 years 3 months ago
This was our second Caribbean cruise on board the Dream, it was not a dream by any means. The food was very poor and we had to ask that the table cloth in the main dining room was changed as they hadn't changed it from the previous guests. The ship was tired and drab, the furniture in the cabin was stained and the carpet stained and looked dirty. In 12 months it had gone to the dogs, we have booked for Dec 2014 but wished we hadn't.

Anniversary cruise
10 years 3 months ago
Just got back from our first Cruise, we had 14 days on Thomson Dream to the Mediterranean. The cabin was clean and kept spotless, we had a port side window which overlooked a different port every morning. We found the Theatre Bars and restaurant, the food was excellent and the waiters serving us were very good. We had the drinks package which was worth every penny.

We went to the Theatre every night which was very good entertainment, the pool was ok and had no problem with sunbeds after sightseeing. The icing on the cake was that we had blessing by Captain John for our fiftieth wedding anniversary, which was organised by Lucy Prescott the Social Hostess. The Captain was a true gentleman who conducted a great service, we had some wonderful photo's done, we also had dinner at the Captains Table the night before.

All in all it was a cruise we will never forget.

Just 1 moan

We had a good time on this med cruise. The only bad time was the ship at sea, was woken at 4 am with cabin rattling like mad, loads of people were sea sick. I had to pay for 2 seasick tablets, some people got the injection instead at £35. One guy said the captain did not use the stabilizers to save money. We did not know if this was possible. The sea wasn't that rough but the rest of the holiday was good. The food was ok and all the workers were polite.

More of a nightmare

I will try and review my holiday as honestly as I can, and not let the shabby disgraceful customer services department of Thomsons cloud my judgment. We arrived in port and sat on the coach for about 20 mins, we then went to check in a stood in line for about an hour, after check in we went to our cabin and our cousin and wife were in the cabin next door. This is our first cruise but their fourth (on the Dream). The first impressions of the cabin were ok, although I thought a little small, as our bags hadn't arrived we decided to go exploring. More to come on the cabin...

I found the boat very dated, carpets are very stained as if they had got wet, on one occasion my cousin actually touched the carpet as she thought it was wet, we saw lots of people cleaning all the time but the shabbiness of the ship just makes it feel dirty. The buffet is more akin to a canteen, with bright yellow plastic tray and one line of food, be prepared for more queuing. Hand sanitizer gel is everywhere, good/bad you decide, it just made me constantly be in fear of catching some awful bug which is not what I want to be thinking about constantly but again I understand why they have it. Food was not great in the canteen, lots of stews, pasta bakes, chips, non descript sponge puddings and custards, just what you need in 90 degree heat! Over cooked, it was just ok, canteen standard and mass catering at the very cheapest level. The only soft drinks available to you here was water, and for the first 3 days your buffet food was served to you in case you spread any illnesses, again being reminded that you may fall ill at any second.

At the bar here, until the last evening, all drinks here are served in plastic glasses, this is a pet hate of mine, makes me feel like I'm in a cheap establishment, which I suppose I was I just didn't pay a cheap price. The Orian restaurant was better but the service was slow, took over 3 hours to get served my meal, on one occasion the waiter took my drinks order and never brought me my drink although I asked him 4 times. The food was ok, but I can cook better at home. The sun loungers were so squeezed in that if you could find a lounger you were very intimate with the stranger next to you.

The pool bars, again more queuing, it's one drink per card, which I can understand but tiny little plastic glasses for soft drinks. It is not what I would call a platinum ship or platinum service as advertised. The cabin again, was very noisy as the gangways are small. It's single file so people are going passed till late in the morning, you can hear every footstep, every word they say, this goes on till about 2am and then at 7am it starts all over again. The ceiling was rusty, to the point where it looked very bad. The WORST part of it was the first morning after getting up, I noticed that my bedding was all stained with yellow stains and blood marks even my pillow had blood all over it, I was horrified, I brought this to the attention of the cabin steward (who was very nice) to change it, he did but put sheets on which were wet. Our cousin and wife said that the Dream had gone downhill, food, service, shabbiness of the boat and they said they would never travel with Thomson Cruises again.

On a plus side I had a nice massage in the spa. It's not really a spa but I had a nice massage anyway, and the casino was good fun with good service. I have travelled all over the world and have stayed in 5 star right down to youth hostels and this is the very worst place and holiday I have ever had. Thomsons after care is the worst, they are not interested at all, you only have to look on their Facebook and Twitter feeds to see the thousands of disgruntled customers. Had they of given me a decent apology and acknowledged my complaint even I may well have used Thomsons again although I would never go on a cruise with them.

The Dream was a dream cruise, wonderful weather, great staff, great food and a lovely clean ship. One day last week we headed into a hurricane force 74 knot storm and the Dream handled it like the beautiful ship that she is.

Will be back to do a longer cruise next year for sure. It was a wonderful experience, second cruise for me, and it wont be the last Thomson simply rocks.

A dream holiday on the Dream

I have had two fantastic cruises on this ship and I have had a wonderful time each cruise. When you are not with your family you sometimes get lonely but not on board this ship. The staff become your family and the ship feels like your home. Captain John Westgarth Pratt was fantastic and he is a lovely man who adds to the warmth of the ship.

The food was fantastic and they had a wide choice available from meat, fish, vegetarian and they had vegan options as well. The house keepers were wonderful and we often came back to the cabin after a short walk and it would be done to exceptional standards.

The entertainment was wonderful they had an incredible show team. Two of the members of the show team had the most beautiful voices and they often performed as Braximusic. There was also special guest performers such as a singer from The Drifters and a comedian.

Overall a wonderful holiday which I would highly recommend.

Bad dream

This was our 5th Thomson cruise and our LAST. It was disaster from start to end. Jamaica are not ready to have cruise passengers. We waited around the airport stood up for about 1 hour then again at the port. The boat was supposed to be refurbished but we saw no evidence of that!

The cabin was ok but dated. The food was cold at every meal on arrival. We left the restaurant most meals without someones meal not appearing. The Officers all had a bad attitude. We were not able to dock on 3 occasions so missed out on 3 ports. We spent the days at sea mostly. Shall I go on.....

Positives
The on board shows were good!!

A Fantastic Experience
10 years 7 months ago
We have just returned from our first cruise and can only say what a superb time we had. The crew on the Thompson Dream were all so friendly that it made the guests friendly too. We really felt as though they were going out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our holiday. The ship was clean throughout and the food was amazing. Enjoyable shows and great musicians ensured we were entertained in whatever way we wanted to be, whether it was watching a show, listening to the resident band or even chilling to the sound of a violin, keyboard duet. I cannot fault Thomson and would go back tomorrow if I could.
P.S. if you are going anytime soon, say hello to Victor, the bass guitarist from Strum Jam. He never stops smiling.

Good time had by all

We are seasoned Thomson cruisers but this was our first on the Dream.
Check in was slick and quick as usual and we made our way to the Lido for lunch.

Our cabin was the biggest we have been in but we did have some problems with the toilet, a loose shaver socket and the temperature of the shower. These were rectified very quickly with a follow up call from Reception to check all was OK and we received a complimentary bottle of wine as an apology.

Take a 2 pin and an American adaptor with a 4 gang extension lead and you will be OK.

There is a kettle and tea making facilities in the cabin and a hairdryer in the bathroom. My Babyliss Pro Nano Dual voltage mini hair straighteners worked a treat. I strongly recommend "ladies who frizz" to invest in a pair.

Our cabin steward Bima was new and although we have no complaints about his service, for the first time ever,we didn't get any towel animals on our beds in the evening which was just a bit disappointing. Other cabins did.

Other members of the family in the cabin next door also had issues with the shower temperature. Beware, the water is scalding hot and even when you adjust to your preference it can change either way in an instant.

The crew were all very friendly and polite. Lifeboat drill was on the first night for us (Saturday). We ate in the Orion restaurant in the evening on Deck 4 and had lunch by the pool in the Sirens restaurant on Deck 11 or the Lido on Deck 9 in the daytime. The free All inclusive Drinks package was very welcome as it was very hot and we downed lots of orange .

I don't think that the quality of the food was as good or as hot this time but was OK. Sometimes the bread was stale. The portions were smaller than before.

We found the layout of the ship very confusing because not all the stairways lead up top and you have sometimes to go out onto the deck and back in via a different staircase. We just about got our bearings by the end of the week.

Bram Lorenz is the Cruise Director. We remember him from old when he was on the Entertainments team. The show team were very polished bearing in mind the average age was 23.

There was insufficient seating in the Medusa lounge to accommodate those who remained seated at the end of their show and those coming in after seeing the show in the Broadway lounge.

The photographers were always snapping and were a hoot and we ended up buying a lot of photos.

The Buffet Magnifique was very good and the comedian Fogwell Flax from Liverpool was very funny.

There had apparently been Norovirus on the ship the week before we went which was a bit worrying but there was a note in our cabin telling us and that the ship had been sanitised. We were meticulous with the hand sanitisers and for the first time ever I didn't see anybody not using them. We appear unscathed and virus free !

All in all we enjoyed our cruise on the Dream and would go again.
