Egypt and Kenya specialist fails

Africa specialist African Safari Club has become possibly one of the first casualties of the political unrest in Egypt earlier this year, having collapsed with 500 clients overseas, mainly in Egypt and Kenya.

The company ceased trading on Wednesday, leaving the Civil Aviation Authority and ABTA to pick up the pieces.

The CAA said those on flight-inclusive packages will be able to continue their holidays but the company will operate no further outbound flights.

The operator, which had 1000 to 1500 forward bookings, was a member of both ABTA and the CAA. Clients with flight-inclusive bookings should contact the CAA to claim refunds; those who had booked accommodation-only packages and non-flight inclusive tours should contact ABTA.

Bromley-based African Safari Club specialised in Nile cruises, Indian Ocean cruises and safaris. It also owned a small cruise ship, the MS Royal Star, on which it offered cruises to the Seychelles, Mauritius, Zanzibar, Madagascar and South Africa.

The CAA said there would not be any problems meeting the company's liabilities.
