I am just back from Sharm and was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED at the amount of suntan oil people were using and then swimming or snorkelling in the sea. I haven't see much posted about this subject but maybe I have missed a major thread??? When we were in Mexico last year we were told about bio friendly sunlotion. I would never dream of letting my kids or myself go near the sea and the fish without using that make, and it comes in all factors so there is no excuse. However, I saw people cover themselves in disgusting amounts of well known oils, not just milk or cream, and then head straight into the sea. When you looked at the water you could clearly see an oil sheen across it. I am sure this must be enormously damaging to the environment and wondered why there isn't more publicity about it. You can't even get into Xcaret in Mexico with a bottle of regular sunscreen, it would be confiscated at the gate. If there is publicity then it must be low-key, because I didn't see one mention! I thought it might be worth people realising what they are doing and that alternatives exist. Until I went to Mexico last year I too was ignorant of the facts, but they are making a big effort there so I hope Sharm does the same.
