Weve used Cardiff a few times and each time we seem to walk for miles to get to the plane!!!!!
This year, Up steps, round the corner, up steps , down steps, round another corner, down steps etc........ then queue up in a corridor for 30 mins to get to the plane.
On the return we got into the airport corridor, to be stopped whilst the outgoing queue ( us the previous week) crossed our queue??????
Followed by more ups, downs, round the corners, etc.......We had walked the whole way round the airport.
desperate for the loo after getting to the baggage reclaim we followed the signs...............
..............round corners, then more bends....5 mins later we were just going to give up when we found them!
Weve also found the airport are funny about buggies and pushchairs.
Due to the steps up & down plus the long walk (think it depends on where your going but for us each time weve been it's been the same) be prepared to carry babies and toddlers along way!
To be fair, this year there's refurbishment going on, so yes the walk is a little longer. (still nothing compared to airports like Majorca). I still prefer the walk, rather than the inconvenience of travelling to somewhere like Gatwick, which normally means an extra nights expense at each end of the holiday.
In the South Wales Echo Fri said that the airport is now selling ready made carton of baby milk after security.
I'd say that the walk in Cardiff was about the same as what weve done in Palma-except with ups and down steps.
Again though it always depends where your plane takes off and lands from.
I'd never fly from London aiprort unless absolutly necessary, always price up the local airport, then Birmingham and Ema as my mum and dad live just up the road from ema and can get a free taxi

Holiday trips on offer to New York from Cardiff.
Seems a decent price! And a first for Cardiff!

not just me isit?

Yeah. The old pier has had slight refurbishment. Then inbound arrivals corridor is now downstairs rather than up and down to immigration.
Also there's a new pier leading to new stand at the western end of the airport (BA maintenance side) with gates to avoiding bussing

Have used the secure car park which is onsite with the hotel - they mini bus you to the airport and pick you up and have no problems with them in the past.

Lorraine,
There is a smoking area outside the terminal, but nothing passed security. Summer is set to be busy at certain times so give yourselves plenty of time to get back through security for boarding!

Last time we used the long stay car park at Cardiff Airport, our friends windscreen had been smashed. Puts me off using it now.
Now if I dont have airport transfer, I always use the Highwayman for parking and if its opening hours, they do lovely meals.

We used the on airport parking last September at Cardiff and will be using it again the week after next.

Went to pick up my daughter from the airport on Monday am.Even tho she was waiting outside the terminal I was forced into the short stay car park and had to pay £1 to get back out!
If you are picking up I suggest you get the person to walk up to the roundabout (about 200mtrs from Arrivals) and pick up there.

Hi Welshhoney
We went at the end of half term so car park was pretty full and had to use overflow 1.
When you get to the island before the airport there was a small sign saying left for long stay car park and right for long stay prebooked. We went right. We slowed down to read the sign on the 1st car park on the right and were told to use it as other (normal) car park was full. When we came back we had to tell the bus driver we were in overflow1 but the main car park was now half empty.
This time we were at one of the 1st gates for flying so not far to walk but coming home at 1.30am to find one person on passport control was not funny!!!
My son had been ill all over me just as we landed (the air crew did their best but we needed to go to the loo to clean up) We spent 3/4 of an hour in a queue for passport control

Does anyone know if you can take sandwiches/food through to departures with you, dont usually bother with this but with no food on the plane im sure my kids will want something. thanks
Hi Becci,
no you won't be able to take food or drink through to departures with you I'm afraid. There is a cafe and shop upstairs before going through to Departures and obviously you will be able to purchase food in departures too. If you want to take food/sandwiches on to the plane, these would have to be purchased airside. Hope this helps.

Is that from personal experience Shirley, as it would make Cardiff Airport different from most ? Solid foodstuffs are generally allowed through airport security in the UK, for consumption in the departure lounge or on board the aircraft. And so with sandwiches, you would just have to be careful with the choice of fillings. But as for drinks, yes, they would have to bought airside.
